What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a tooth shaped covering used as a cap over damaged teeth. The purpose of placing a crown is to improve the appearance and strength of the damaged tooth. Crowns are also placed over surgically inserted dental implants.

What are the different types of Dental Crowns?

The types of dental crowns include ceramic crowns, zirconia crowns, porcelain covered corrosion resistant metal crowns or porcelain fused to metal crowns, corrosion resistant metal crowns and gold crowns.

What is the best type of crown?

The best type of crown depends on the need of each individual patient and the position of the tooth. For instance, some people would find a gold crown placed on a front tooth unsightly. Ceramic, tooth coloured crowns placed on the front teeth maintain the natural appearence of the smile.

How long will a Dental Crown last?

Crowns are expected to last for about 5 years. Some crowns could last for up to 30 years. The life of a crown depends on the dental hygiene practiced by the patient and general wear and tear caused by biting, chewing or grinding. Crowns may crack if the patient has an accident.

Is it painful to get a Dental Crown?

Dentists inject local anaesthetic to numb the tooth and gum before placing the crown. The patient will not feel any pain while the crown is being placed. After the anaesthetic wears off the patient may feel mild pain or sensitivity for a few hours.

Liberty Dental Clinic

Rating from 7 Reviews I love this clinic and I will be backKarin, US, 10 Aug 17

I am from Oz and have been living in San Clemente CA for the last 6 months and chipped a front tooth as well as breaking my night guard in the same week. I checked prices to rectify in the USA and thought would have to wait for the next trip home to fix as I didn't have insurance. Then I googled dentists in Tijuana and stumbled across some great reviews for Liberty dental services. Abel responded promptly to all of my email questions and I quickly made an appointment. I couldn't be happier with the work done. I love this clinic and I will be back! Fantastic experience with this clinic. Super friendly staff, great service and hospitality.

Ocean Dental Cancún - U.S Board Certified Dentist

(805) 465-6061 Blvd Kukulcan KM 12.7 Zona hotelera, Cancun, 77500
Rating from 113 Reviews My experience was amazing and I cannot wait to go back in March or April!Ginette, Canada, 16 Nov 16

I spent 52 years with a smile i was not satisfied with. I needed 7 extractions and therefore seven implants. My front teeth needed over 16 crowns. After few days of work, i could not beleive my eyes, i finally could smile fully without feeling shy and sad. Surprisingly, the teatments were almost painless, i cannot say i felt pain, but rather a light discomfort after the extractions. It changed the way i feel about myself! I feel beautifull, natural and proud. And i can eat without fearing a tooth braking. In my wildest dreams, i never expected such a beautifull smile, and this for a fraction of the price! The clinic is very modern, clean and beautifull. The owner is very professional and compationate. I was amazed about the team of specialist. Each of them were very professional and competent in their field and most of all very kind, gentle and attentive to my needs. I have been to a lot of clinics over the years here in Canada, and none of them had the level of expertise and specialist all in one clinic, this is important in the manner that whatever questions you have, they all get answered in a short time and this at the same clinic! Plus, i never felt this at home but i felt that they really cared about me and the result i wanted rather than my money. At my astonishment, most of their clients were travellers. I met many Canadians and Americans that have been coming to the clinic for years and their level of satisfaction is the same as it was the first time they came to the clinic. Overall, all of these factors contributed to making me feel secure and trusting! My experience was amazing and i cannot wait to go back in March or April!

Dental Brush

(805) 856-6122 Avenida De La Amistad #1305, Empleados Federales, Tijuana, 22010
Rating from 32 Reviews We feel we made a good decision to have the work done in Mexicodean, Canada, 04 May 16

My wife and I are from Canada and in addition to our holiday to the USA, planned on going to a dentist in Tijuana. I researched the prospect of Mexican dentistry before leaving home and also the reviews online for various clinics. En route we selected Dental Brush. My wife had a crown replaced and I had a crown put on an existing root canal plus had a root canal done and crown put on a different tooth that was bothering me for a couple weeks prior. I also had a tooth removed and an implant put in. As I had significant bone loss in the area, it was decided the dental surgeon would do a bone graft as well. I plan on returning in a few months to have the crown made for it and installed. As doing an implant wasn't on my list of things going in, I had some concerns and apprehensions. Dr. Leon explained the procedures in detail ahead of time and answered all my questions to put my mind at ease. He doesn't rush and is very conscientious in his work, as are the other staff. Overall, we feel we made a good decision to have the work done in Mexico. It is definitely a viable alternative to local dentistry back home, at a reduced cost. The cost is what motivates most people to consider Mexican dentists and there are dental offices everywhere in Tijuana. But like shopping anywhere, you need to do your homework. We did and feel we made a good choice choosing Dental Brush. I had called a few different clinics while still travelling but after my first phone contact with the clinic's front desk person Elizabeth, my decision was made. She answered all my questions satisfactorily (in excellent English) and was very easy to converse with. Future correspondence was handled by Antonio as well as orienting/coordinating at the clinic when we arrived. And I have to say, this guy really went the extra mile for me. I know this site is about dental experiences only, but the day before my second appointment at the clinic, while touring around Tijuana, I experienced a potentially serious problem in one of my eyes. When I went to the clinic the next day for my crowns and implant surgery (which would in itself be stressful) I was facing a huge unknown with my eye. I informed Antonio and asked if he could call around for me to eye clinics. He did so while I was having my dental work done. When my procedure was finished he had an appointment lined up with an Ophthalmologist at one of the best clinics in Mexico. Another staff member drove us there and waited with us while I had my consultation then drove us back to Dental Brush. Would another clinic gave done this to help in an urgent situation? I don't know. This review is in gratitude for all the assistance we received for our dental needs and my eye need. Thanks!

Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry

(805) 301-5543 Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry - Cancun Dental, Malecon Plaza Store 101A, Cancun, 77500
Rating from 61 Reviews will always go back to them for my dental needsRoger, US, 21 May 16

My experience was perfect. In 2014 I had 12 crowns. Went back a year later and had 11 more and a three tooth bridge. At 55 I have had a lot of experience in the dentist office. My last experience at home here in Florida cost me 20,000.00 and turned into a financial, nightmare. The doctors at Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry are more experienced than our dentist because they perform more procedures. The time and money saved was in the tens of thousands of dollars. The office was impeccably clean, and conveniently located in the mall. I called upon arriving in Cancun and they came directly to my hotel, picked me up, and drove me back after the initial consultation. You cannot find this kind of care in the United States. I love the doctors and staff at this facility and will always go back to them for my dental needs. Cancun is a beautiful place.

Dentics Cancun

Rating from 21 Reviews I was very satisfied with the safety and sterile technique usedChristine, Canada, 20 Jan 18

After receiving a recommendation from my sister about her great experience and results I decided to try Dentics Cancun. I was very pleased with the service and quick responses to my questions while I was still at home in Canada. I felt like I was definitely going to be taken care of when I arrived. Dr. Naxy Sanchez was professional and took the time to explain everything to me again at each appointment. She made me feel relaxed and did my crowns/ veneers pain-free and I am a nervous person at any dentist. Also, as professional Nurse in Canada, I was very satisfied with the safety and sterile technique used. I had no issues. The finished result was so amazing that I actually had an emotional moment right there in the chair when Dr. Sanchez gave me the mirror to see my finished new smile! I confidently can assure a great experience in a short amount of time with Dentics. From start to finish I was completely 100% satisfied and loved my vacation time while getting a new smile.

Dr. Alejandro Benitez Dental Clinic

227 Avenida Benito Juarez, Nuevo Progreso, 88810
Rating from 81 Reviews Highly recommended after over six hours in chairJames, US, 11 Sep 16

I went in for implant and bone graft. Needed two old crowns replaced. Was revealed that I had 3 cavities th;at needed attention also. The implant x ray revealed t;hat I also needed a sinus lift to accommodate implant. I had used clinic at N Progression before. old clinic reviews weren't up to standard i wanted, so I researched and chose Dr. A. Benitez clinic. think it was a good choice. It wasn't painless. a sinus lift is a root canal on steriods. The staff was all you could expect and maybe more. Aby met us at crossing and guided wife and I to clinic. The equipment was higher tech than in my us clinic. Went back in two days and got new caps installed. Back home and doing well. Some implants are a lot more trouble than others. will go back in about six months to get implant completed. Highly recommended after over six hours in chair.

Dental Crowns $170  -  $350
Zirconia Crown $350  -  $370
Zirconium crowns and bridges are so strong they can be used anywhere in the mouth. Zirconium crowns can withstand the biting pressure of the front teeth as well as back teeth grinding. The look of zirconium crowns and bridges is so close to natural teeth that it is hard to tell the difference and it is this quality which makes it very useable within dental work. Zirconium crowns can be fixed using traditional dental cements. Zirconium crowns have quickly become the preferred material for dental crowns. Zirconium is a very strong substance that can endure wear and tear of everyday use. When looking at Zirconium crowns from an aesthetic point it is clear and very similar to a natural tooth and reflects light the same way. This may be important if your new crowns are on the front of your mouth and it is particularly relevant in cases where the crown will be seen next to the natural teeth.

Rating from 1 Review The doctor speaks good English, explains everything fully and isn't in a rushJerry, US, 11 Apr 18

I had major work done. 28 crowns, 10 root canals, 7 posts and 3 molar extractions, all in 4 consecutive days. I wouldn’t do so much in such a short time period again. I have avoided the dentist for years, several teeth were worn down to the gums and some old fillings were cracked and loose. This wasn’t the cheapest clinic but I liked the dentist, Hector Perez, more than the other dentists at different clinics. As he speaks good English, explains everything fully, isn’t in a rush and everything appears to have been successful.

Rating from 4 Reviews A great deal for the work we had doneRich, US, 17 Mar 18

This was our first visit for implants. I had 2 implants and one crown. My girlfriend had 2 teeth extracted and 2 implants for her lower partial. We were treated very well. Everyone was professional and informative. Answered all our questions. The best staff you could ask for. Eric, Lucy and Natalie are great! All the nurses that assisted the dentist were fantastic too. The clinic was clean and organized. All the staff was helpful and made us feel at ease. Great location for our first visit to Tijuana in many years. I paid $2750 and my girlfriend paid $2900 - a great deal for the work we had done! We have a few more visits to complete the work and look forward to seeing Lucy, Natalie and Eric! I highly recommend Revolution Dental Care

Dental Crowns $225  -  $400
Dental Crowns We offer two kinds of materials:1) PFM (Porcelain Fused to Metal) Crown - $225 each2) Zirconia (Metal Free) Crown - $400 each Look under PFM crown or Zirconia Crown for more details.
PFM Crown Up to $225
PFM crowns are a hybrid between porcelain and metal crowns. Initially a metal shell is prepared which can fit perfectly over the concerned tooth. Then a porcelain veneer is fused on the metal shell which gives the crown a natural looking appearance. METAL DOES NOT SHOW AT ALL.A PFM (Porcelain Fused to Metal) crown is a cap that is tooth shaped. It covers a particular tooth to re-establish its size, shape, appearance and improve its strength. When the crown is cemented, it completely encases the visible portion of the tooth. They look just like a natural tooth and last for about seven years. Sometimes, they last up to forty years.
Zirconia Crown Up to $400
ZIRCONIA or METAL FREE Crowns are the highest in crown quality and aesthetic. Zirconia is gentle on the nerves since it transfers heat and cold more slowly than crowns made of metal. The zirconia material is biocompatible, meaning that it is safe to stay within your mouth for a long period of time. There is no need to worry about any adverse reactions from your body because it is not rejected by the human body. Due to the Zirconia's light translucent color, there are no black margins in case of age-related receding gums, as this is frequently the case with metal restorations. Due to the extreme hardness and high density of the material, it withstands the highest biting force making them more durable.
