What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a tooth shaped covering used as a cap over damaged teeth. The purpose of placing a crown is to improve the appearance and strength of the damaged tooth. Crowns are also placed over surgically inserted dental implants.

What are the different types of Dental Crowns?

The types of dental crowns include ceramic crowns, zirconia crowns, porcelain covered corrosion resistant metal crowns or porcelain fused to metal crowns, corrosion resistant metal crowns and gold crowns.

What is the best type of crown?

The best type of crown depends on the need of each individual patient and the position of the tooth. For instance, some people would find a gold crown placed on a front tooth unsightly. Ceramic, tooth coloured crowns placed on the front teeth maintain the natural appearence of the smile.

How long will a Dental Crown last?

Crowns are expected to last for about 5 years. Some crowns could last for up to 30 years. The life of a crown depends on the dental hygiene practiced by the patient and general wear and tear caused by biting, chewing or grinding. Crowns may crack if the patient has an accident.

Is it painful to get a Dental Crown?

Dentists inject local anaesthetic to numb the tooth and gum before placing the crown. The patient will not feel any pain while the crown is being placed. After the anaesthetic wears off the patient may feel mild pain or sensitivity for a few hours.

I can’t thank her enough for such an efficient serviceDeborah, Mexico, 28 02 24

The clinic has been extremely professional! They collected me from the airport and to and from the hotel and back to the airport, Yun made all the appointments and sent messages to confirm dates and treatment times the night before. Her friendly attitude and command of English are brilliant! She is a gem. Dr Sandy the dentist is so thorough and did an excellent job on my crowns! She hums and sings as she works which helped me to relax! I can’t thank her enough for such an efficient service — way beyond my expectations. I highly recommend her! Her nurse is also excellent - sorry I didn’t remember her name but again efficient in a lovely manner. Thank you all so much! I will be back for more treatments in 6 months!

We came here because my partner needed to get a root canal and crown, and we couldn't wait for the insurance to go through in the States. The staff were all very nice and professional from the first point of contact to the last, including the office staff and doctors. The facility is very clean and the dental work was done efficiently, and planned so that we could still enjoy our vacation while there! Excellent work and for a great price! Definitely recommend!

Dental Crowns
Emax Crown $350 - $450
An Emax crown is a type of dental crown made from lithium disilicate, a high-strength ceramic material known for its excellent aesthetic properties and durability. Emax crowns are often chosen for their natural translucency, which closely mimics the appearance of natural teeth, making them ideal for use in the front teeth where aesthetics are a priority. They are also strong enough to be used in the back teeth for patients who prefer a more natural-looking option over metal-based crowns. Emax crowns are resistant to chipping and wear, and they can be precisely color-matched to blend seamlessly with surrounding teeth, offering both functional and cosmetic benefits.
Resin Crown $250 - $300
A resin crown, also known as a composite crown, is a type of dental crown made from a durable composite resin material. Resin crowns are often used as a more affordable and less invasive option compared to other types of crowns, such as metal or ceramic. They are particularly useful for temporary restorations or in cases where aesthetics are a primary concern, as they can be color-matched to blend with natural teeth. While resin crowns offer good aesthetic results and are relatively quick to place, they may not be as durable or long-lasting as crowns made from materials like porcelain or zirconia, especially in high-stress areas like the back teeth.

The dentist is a wonderful dentist, he listened and answered all my questionsScott, US, 13 02 24

After doing a lot of research I decided on Neo Dental. This was based on the reviews on the clinic. Dr Miller also carried out a zoom call with me on two occasions to discuss my x-rays, treatment and suggest some different options. The work required was very extensive with 9 implants and 7 veneers. Dr Miller is a wonderful dentist, he listened and answered all my questions. His clinic is first class and his staff are very nice people who are caring and will go the extra mile to make sure you are looked after. I am very happy with Dr Millers work to date and look forward to returning in a couple of months for the final phase of my treatment.

I felt this was a first-class operation and I trusted the doctor's judgementJohn, Mexico, 05 05 21

The office is modern, clean, and spotless. The doctor gave me a tour and I saw several examination rooms and an on-site lab for making crowns. I saw lots of gleaming equipment and half a dozen staff in the office. It’s much larger than your typical dentist office in the US. Dr Munoz gave me a really good price for root canals, crowns and an implant. It’s probably 1/3 of what it costs in the US. You could probably save more if you went to a dentist on some side street in a dusty border town. But I felt this was a first-class operation and I trusted the doctor's judgement. I can’t say the root canals were painless. They weren’t. But the pain was less than expected. Furthermore, I wasn’t even aware that he had started and almost finished placing the implant. The whole thing was over in a couple of hours. One thing I really like about the implant is that there is no waiting six months to attach the abutment and crown. He uses a more modern system where this can be done a few days after receiving the implant
