What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a tooth shaped covering used as a cap over damaged teeth. The purpose of placing a crown is to improve the appearance and strength of the damaged tooth. Crowns are also placed over surgically inserted dental implants.

What are the different types of Dental Crowns?

The types of dental crowns include ceramic crowns, zirconia crowns, porcelain covered corrosion resistant metal crowns or porcelain fused to metal crowns, corrosion resistant metal crowns and gold crowns.

What is the best type of crown?

The best type of crown depends on the need of each individual patient and the position of the tooth. For instance, some people would find a gold crown placed on a front tooth unsightly. Ceramic, tooth coloured crowns placed on the front teeth maintain the natural appearence of the smile.

How long will a Dental Crown last?

Crowns are expected to last for about 5 years. Some crowns could last for up to 30 years. The life of a crown depends on the dental hygiene practiced by the patient and general wear and tear caused by biting, chewing or grinding. Crowns may crack if the patient has an accident.

Is it painful to get a Dental Crown?

Dentists inject local anaesthetic to numb the tooth and gum before placing the crown. The patient will not feel any pain while the crown is being placed. After the anaesthetic wears off the patient may feel mild pain or sensitivity for a few hours.

Rating from 31 Reviews The staff were all courteous and professionalBooth, US, 14 08 18

I went to Reny with the intention of having all my remaining teeth extracted and getting full dentures. After talking with Dr Alvarez, I saw how many of my existing teeth could be saved with crowns and root canals for about the same price. The staff were all courteous and professional. I felt very comfortable. Several times I heard a cell phone vibrate and that was it. No one checked messages or took calls or returned calls while they were in the room with me. This is how professionals behave. To be honest, I'm very impressed - the staff here is much more professional than in the last few dental offices I've been in in the US.

Rating from 87 Reviews Very nice!Dennis, Canada, 28 02 17

I was just looking for an estimate for crowns, and the dentist was very nice and explained the options very well to me in English. They are in a temporary location now while their main office gets renovated.

Dental Crowns $250 - $400
1) What are dental crowns? A crown isa type of dental restoration that fully cups over that portion of a tooth thatlies at and above the gum line. Once itsbeen cemented into place, a crown, in effect, becomes the tooths new outersurface. 2) What purpose do crownsserve? Crowns are one of dentistrys most versatile restorations. They offer a way to repair and strengthen damaged teeth. They alsoprovide a way to improve a tooths appearance, including color, shape and evenapparent alignment.
Gold Crown $500 - $700
Porcelain Crown from $400
Some dental crowns are fabricated in a manner where their full thickness is porcelain (dental ceramic). These crowns can possess a translucency that makes them the most cosmetically pleasing of all of the different types of dental crowns. Although they can be very life like in appearance, the overall strength of all-porcelain dental crowns is less than other types of crowns. While they can be a good choice for front teeth, due to the hefty chewing and biting forces that humans can generate, all-porcelain dental crowns may not be the best choice for back teeth. Your dentists judgement will be required on this point.

I had a total of 8 crowns done on the top row and I could not be happier! The staff and dentist (Dr. Lopez) were incredibly professional and I felt right at home in their care. It was a great value (especially compared to the United States) and the work was done beautifully. They completely transformed my smile and I could not be any happier! Great experience! The clinic was clean, easy to find, and professional. By far the nicest building and staff in Los Algodones!
