What is a Dental X-Ray?

Dental X-rays are procedures where photographs of the teeth and mouth are taken to diagnose dental and oral disease or adverse dental conditions. An extensive examination of the patient’s mouth and teeth is done on the first visit to a dentist. This usually involves the use of X-rays. X-rays help dentists detect dental and oral problems that are not easily visible to the naked eye.

How is a Dental X-Ray performed?

Dental X-rays are either intra-oral or extra-oral. The film is placed outside the mouth and the image is taken for an extra-oral X-ray. The film is placed inside the mouth and the image is taken for an intra-oral X-ray. Depending on the machine used, patients may feel pressure on their cheek for a few moments when the dentist focuses the camera.

What does a Dental X-Ray show?

X-rays allow the dentist to see, bone loss, gum disease, dental infections, positioning of wisdom teeth, oral cysts or abscesses, tumours, jaw fractures and foreign objects in the mouth or teeth.

Are Dental X-Rays safe?

Dental X-rays are the safest among X-rays and patients are exposed to very little radiation. Dentists use digital X-rays that are less harmful than traditional X-rays. Patients should tell the dentist about any existing health condition or if they are pregnant.  The dentist will not use X-rays to risk the health of patients unless absolutely necessary.

What are the alternatives to taking a Dental X-Ray?

Alternatives to the dental X-ray include Cari vu, a diagnostic device using transillumination technology and the Diagnodent laser assisted diagnostic device.

A great deal for the work we had doneRich, US, 17 Mar 18

This was our first visit for implants. I had 2 implants and one crown. My girlfriend had 2 teeth extracted and 2 implants for her lower partial. We were treated very well. Everyone was professional and informative. Answered all our questions. The best staff you could ask for. Eric, Lucy and Natalie are great! All the nurses that assisted the dentist were fantastic too. The clinic was clean and organized. All the staff was helpful and made us feel at ease. Great location for our first visit to Tijuana in many years. I paid $2750 and my girlfriend paid $2900 - a great deal for the work we had done! We have a few more visits to complete the work and look forward to seeing Lucy, Natalie and Eric! Dentalestetic Dra. Melisa Meneses

Rating from 61 Reviews Wonderful!Rodney, Mexico, 26 Jan 17

I had an infection in my gums. Kept going to dentists and no one diagnosed what was wrong. Dra. Meneses immediately diagnosed me, prescribed medications and I am no longer suffering with this. She even made arrangements to pick me up and bring me to the Clinic, no charge for that. She was great, I would go back any time and would recommend her to others. She charged me 300 pesos the first visit. Two follow up visits for no additional cost. Very good value. The clinic was wonderful. Well equipped and clean. Very good staff, English spoken well.

They’re all good people and I enjoyed my experience hereRichard, Gatineau, 03 Feb 18

I had teeth cleaning job done at this clinic. I chose them after doing some research on the internet - the reviews I read were good and the service was definitely value for money. The people at the clinic were lovely - they even came to pick me up at the hotel and this was a great service. The secretary spoke English well and she was quite pleasant. They’re all good people and I enjoyed my experience here.

Simply Dental

(866) 558-9536 Ave B 192, Los Algodones, 2197
Rating from 84 Reviews We were impressed with how modern the clinic is, professional staff and good command of EnglishNeill, US, 21 Feb 18

I went to the clinic because I had pain in one molar. I thought it was a cavity under an old filling. It turns out the tooth with the issue had a root canal and no cavity. The doctor could not find any cavity with 3 X-rays and was very clear about her not knowing the cause of the pain. It was here I expected her to either sell me some exotic treatment or send me off empty-handed. Instead, she arranged for a root canal specialist to come over and look at my tooth and give an opinion. I agreed and within a half an hour he arrived. He pushed and prodded on that tooth and zeroed in on the pain. He explained the tooth has a microcrack which didn't show up in the x-rays. He explained that in a root canal the ligament remains and can cause the pain. He told me he recommended the tooth be removed. We did that and the problem was corrected. I was worried about having medical treatment in Mexico but I priced out a check up and a filling in USA and it was several hundred dollars, more expensive than what I was quoted at Simply Dental. I am married to a nurse and she was skeptical too but we thought it's only a filling replacement. We were impressed with how modern the clinic is, how professional and how easy the receptionists and all the staff were to understand. Their English language skills were exceptional. My wife was very impressed with the exam room cleaning she was able to observe from the waiting room. I had my treatment which was an exam, 3 digital X-rays, a specialist consultation and finally a molar extraction with of course freezing followed by a prescription for antibiotics. When I went to pay I was thinking well this is going to be as expensive as what I was quoted in Palm Springs. The bill was written out and presented. $70 was all it was! I was waiting thinking there must be another bill for the specialist, I asked is this all? Yes, that is the cost for an extraction with X-ray. I paid it and am still shocked at the cost compared to the high-class services I received, I would highly recommend this clinic.

Dental X-Ray
Dental X-ray examinations provide valuable information that helps your dentist evaluate your oral health. With the help of radiographs (the term for pictures taken with X-rays), your dentist can look at what is happening beneath the surface of your teeth and gums. If you have questions about your dental X-ray exam, talk with your dentist.
Digital Dental X-Ray free
Dental x-rays are critical for many reasons. They allow a dentist to detect tooth decay, abscessed or impacted teeth, and simply overall tooth density and health of current fillings, crowns, etc. They can also indicate if someone is in the early stages of gum disease and can help a dentist take preventative measures in addressing the problem.Digital x-rays are one of the newest and most innovative forms of x-ray imaging. This is an alternative to traditional photographic film used for x-ray purposes. There are many advantages to this alternative procedure, especially in the field of dentistry. One main advantage is that there is less radiation exposure to the patient. Another advantage is simply the efficiency in transferring and enhancing images, which makes it easier to go over with the results with the patient.Digital dental x-rays are an important innovation that has led the way for safer and more efficient preventative dental care.

Confident Smile Studio

(866) 660-2109 Ave. B # 230 Suite 1, Los Algodones
Rating from 11 Reviews What more can I say they are simply top notch!Dorn, California, 28 Nov 16

My trip to Algodones Mexico began with my local dentist here in Northern California,Napa ,to be exact, quoted me a price of something around $10,000 to do one implant which would support a small 2 tooth bridge Plus a root canal and one crown on another tooth. The lady in charge of administering our pension fund medical benefits, when asked to consult on this issue, mentioned that her husband had trouble to Mexico and received excellent dental work which would've cost approximately $45,000 here in California for approximately $7500 in Mexico . I begin to research possibilities for dental care in Mexico and eventually through many phone calls and the help of people at the confident smile dental studios and the ladies at the online web service named dental departures I was able to set up a consultation appointment with Dr. Daniel Gaspar I traveled to Mexico And did a full consultation with the doctor. It was determined that I needed six implants to in some cases replace teeth and in other places firmly anchored in a new bridge where an existing bridge was old and tired. I was so impressed with the quality of the work and the ability of the staff to share their thinking with me and point out other ways to improve the dental health of my mouth that I eventually did more work in terms of replacing old crowns with new crowns doing a root canal's were they could work proactively to maintain my dental health. Eventually I was able to do a full mouth restoration and my teeth are strong healthy, and attractive. If I had done this work here in the United States it would have cost between 40 and $50,000 as it turns Out this work eventually caused about 9500 in Mexico. I receive $3000 in Delta dental benefits each year and have been able to use almost the entire amount over A two-year span. Therefore my 40,000two $50,000 dental bill here in the states ended up being about 3500 to myself doing the work in Mexico. The entire staff of this dental facility have become like old friends or as they say in Hawaii,Kamahina. I did make five separate trips to Mexico for this work which for me was easy because I'm a retired person this might be a problem for someone with tight time constraints but the amount of money saved in the quality of the work would make me figure out how to do this even where I'm not retired. I am going to return to this dentist every six months for a cleaning and check ups since I just don't want to deal owith American dentist any longer because of their extravagant prices and because they do not offer the same levels of care care and service that I received at confidence smile studios What more can I say they are simply top notch!

Cosmetic Dentist in Nuevo Progreso Dental Artistry

(866) 260-4253 Benito Juarez 217, Nuevo Progreso, 88810
Rating from 37 Reviews Already recommended the clinic to friends.Charles, US, 20 Nov 16

Even though the clinic came highly recommended, I was still a little leery. It did not take me long to realize I was in good hands. Having neglected my teeth for too long, I was relieved when a tooth, I thought had to come out, could be saved. Two root canals, two crowns, and five cavities along with a deep cleaning and I was fixed up. Don't do as I did, if you have insurance, take the paperwork with you. I had to send mine back and waiting for it to be completed. Hopefully will get some of the money back. Already recommended the clinic to friends. Obviously not a fancy place, but comfortable and staff, especially Rick, made me feel safe.

Dental X-Ray $10  -  $60
Dental radiographs, commonly referred to as X-ray films, or informally, X-rays, are pictures of the teeth, bones, and surrounding soft tissues to screen for and help identify problems with the teeth, mouth, and jaw. X-ray pictures can show cavities, cancerous or benign masses, hidden dental structures (such as wisdom teeth), and bone loss that cannot be seen during a visual examination. Dental X-rays may also be done as follow-up after dental treatments.
Traditional Dental X-Ray $10  -  $20
What are the benefits of a dental radiograph examination? Many diseases of the teeth and surrounding tissues cannot be seen during a routine visual examination of your mouth. An x-ray examination may reveal: small areas of decay between the teeth or below existing restorations (fillings)infections in the bone periodontal (gum) disease in the form of reduced bone levels around the teeth abscesses or cysts developmental abnormalitiessome types of tumors Finding and treating dental problems at an early stage can save time, money and unnecessary  discomfort. If you have a hidden tumor, radiographs may even help save your life. There are two types of radiographs that me taken: intra-oral and extra-oral. The intraoral x-rays are the most commonly known type that involve the placement of the small films inside the mouth, and provide the most detail andaccuracy of small areas at a time. The extraoral films are larger, and take a more overall view of the teeth and jaws. The most common extraoral film is the panoramic x-ray which is taken by a unit that spins around the patients head and  produces a complete survey of the teeth and upper & lower jawbones.
Panoramic Dental X-Ray $40  -  $50
The panoramic x-ray, or  as it was first called, is a wonderful modern invention. It has much less radiation than a traditional full set of eighteen (18) smaller x-rays and it much more comfortable for the patient to have taken. The panoramic x-ray can also be taken very quickly and is especially helpful when a patient is in pain.Typically, a panoramic x-ray should be taken every three (3) years and having a series of them on the same patient can assist the dentist in later determining whether changes seen in the panoramic x-ray are normal or not.

Rating from 9 Reviews It feels greatKelly, US, 23 May 17

I came here to see about an implant back in January. My tooth had already been extracted months earlier so I was ready for the post to be implanted. Went ahead with doing so because the price was right, the reviews here were great, and Antonio the Dentist made me feel at ease. Post went in without a hitch. Now, 4 months later I just got home from having the crown done and also another crown done where one of my teeth had a pretty bad cavity. My God, looks so good and even better, feels great! I've been to dozens upon dozens of dentists in my life, and the professionalism here rates better than any other I've been. My dentist for life now and always a great excuse to head down to Ensenada for a little vacation and some awesome tacos. A1

Diagnostico Radiologico

(805) 856-6191 Javier Mina # 9308-A Zona Río, Planta baja Hospital Centro Medico Nova, Tijuana, 22320
Rating from 13 Reviews It was a good experienceLennie, US, 26 Sep 16

I tried to find the place on my GPS but the street is actually "Calle Francisco Javier Mina" not just "javier mina". That should help you get there if you are using a GPS. It's not terribly far from the border. A driver will pick up up and take you to the the place to get the MRI completed. I waited in the waiting room there for over an hour. When you enter the room they will ask you to go the bathroom and take off your clothes to change into a gown. You will sit in the MRI machine for 25 min. Afterward you can get back into your clothes and wait for the driver to come back and grab you and the MRI disc. The doctor back at the clinic can give you your disc and images and email you your report unless you want to wait. the report is in spanish. By the way if you go straight to the MRI spot they will charge you about $155 BUT you won't have that report from a doctor. All you will have are images that you can't even understand. So it's worth paying the $227 to get the MRI and the Report from this place. It was a good experience and is my first medical tourism sort of experience. And I am not a convert. I want to handle all my medical in tijuana since I live in san diego. I just didn't like how long I had to wait at the MRI waiting room but the thing is they give you your MRI right there! If you were in the states it'll be very long time before you receive your discs and a report from the doctor. So I guess I dont have any real complaints.
