What are Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges, also called tooth bridges, are placed when patients have one or more teeth missing or have gaps between their teeth. It usually takes two visits to get dental bridges fitted and the procedure takes about two hours.

What different types of dental bridges are there?

Traditional dental bridges consist of two crowns placed on healthy teeth on either side of the missing teeth, or gap, and the bridge then covers the gap supported by the two crowns. Cantilever bridges are placed when there are healthy teeth only on one side of the bridge. Maryland bridges are bonded to the backs of teeth on either side of the bridge and are not connected to crowns. Implant retained bridges are bridges that are placed over implants fixed in the gums. These bridges are placed when several implants are surgically inserted.

Is fitting dental bridges painful?

The dentist will numb the area where the dental bridge is to be placed before performing the procedure. Patients will not feel any pain during the procedure.

When can I travel by air after fitting dental bridges?

Patients should be able to fly two days after fitting their dental bridge. If they feel any pain or sensitivity after the procedure, they should consult their dentist for medications or postpone their journey till the pain or sensitivity has abated.

How long does recovery after fitting dental bridges take?

If patients feel pain or sensitivity after a dental bridge is fitted, they should recover within a week.

How do I care for my teeth after fitting dental bridges?

Patients should follow a normal dental hygiene routine. Patients should brush and floss their teeth and maintain proper hygiene. Patients should avoid eating or drinking anything that is too hot, cold or too hard, for at least a week after the procedure.

What are the alternatives to fitting dental bridges?

Some alternatives to dental bridges are partial dentures or removable dentures.

Overall a very clear, quality and pain-free experiencePaul, Turkey, 09 01 19

I was looking to improve my front bridge which was replacing 1 lost and 1 damaged tooth. I did my online research and based on the quality of reviews decided to use Dr Cem Baysal. My experience so far has been great, Mr Baysal is easy to have a discussion with, not pressured and informed of all the last state of the art options. I picked an implant as a permanent long term solution. Within just over 24 hours of my initial appointment, I had returned and had the implant successfully completed. The surgery itself is very modern with the latest equipment and spotlessly hygienic. A small hospital, 3 minutes around the corner can deal with any necessary 3D X rays etc for bone quality validation etc. Post the operation itself I had little discomfort and even my temporary bridge (on whilst the implant attaches to my bone) looks better than my previous permanent bridge. I now must wait 4 months and return again for the final touches. Overall a very clear, quality and pain-free experience. Location is good also.

As it turns out, it was the best decision I could have madeSamantha, UK, 16 01 19

I had 3 extractions, 5 implants fitted with a 12 piece crown bridge fixed to my top jaw. I also had a 12 piece crown bridge fitted to my bottom jaw over my existing teeth. All carried out with first class care. My ‘Implant journey’ began in 2016 where I had an appointment/assessment with a U.K. dentist & the cost of having the work done at home just wasn’t an option. I then started to look elsewhere and stumbled across the ‘whatclinic’ website. After having carried out a fair amount of research on various clinics all around Europe I decided that I felt most comfortable with the Medlife clinic in Turkey and as it turns out, it was the best decision I could have made. I had had an initial appointment with another Turkish dental practice that had a clinic in London used for initial assessment prior to travelling to Turkey, where a panoramic x-ray of my teeth/jaws was taken. I also contacted Medlife via the ‘whatclinic’ website and received a call and email from Onur within a very short time. Any questions I had were answered promptly and without trying to blind me with science. Onur provided invaluable in helping advise on flights, arrange accommodation, airport transfers and dental appointments (accommodation & transfers were included in the cost plan where the cost of the treatment was over a certain amount at that time). To dispel any fears I may have had at any time throughout the whole process. I emailed the panoramic x-ray I'd had taken in London to Medlife, then I received a cost plan based on the x-ray the following afternoon at around a third of the cost it would be in the U.K. My first appointment with the Medlife was in September where I was greeted at the airport by their driver and was taken to my hotel. The next day another lady from Medlife picked me up and together we went to see my dentists. I was welcomed by a smiling receptionist & in fact, all the staff were very welcoming. The doctors spoke great English & just as important, actually listened to my concerns & explained clearly the best option for treatment. I was quite nervous at first but was quite quickly put at ease. I had the initial preparation work done, the necessary extractions, Implants fitted & temporary bridges fixed over a period of around 4 or 5 days (can’t remember exactly). I then returned to the U.K for around 3 months to allow everything to heal. I returned to Turkey in December for the final treatment and was there for 7 days in total. My temporary bridges were removed, an impression was taken of the top jaw with implants & the bottom teeth were prepared ready for crowns also. Bridges were fitted and doctors helped me make adjustments until I was completely happy with the finished result. I have lived with my implants for about a month now and I’m just so pleased with them. I think it’s safe to say, my teeth have ‘never’ looked so good and I will be eternally grateful to all the Doctors, Nurses, technicians and everyone involved with the Medlife Group, Turkey. I’m not pretending it was a pleasant experience & after the anaesthetic wore off I did experience some pain & discomfort for a couple of hours on the first visit which is to be expected I suppose as after all, it is quite an invasive procedure, but it was to prove all worth it in the end. The doctors are clearly very skilled in their field & are very sympathetic during the treatment. I don’t hesitate to recommend the practice to anyone that asks me when they see my amazing new teeth. The total cost of the treatment was approximately £6,000 which was around a third of the cost in the U.K. at that time. A big thank you to you all.

They really go above and beyond to carry out your treatment to a tight timeframeEmma, Germany, 15 10 18

I travelled over to Belgrade from Germany and stayed for 2 weeks in September 2018. I received 12 crowns and an 8 tooth bridge. 7 root canals with 2 posts. Basically a new smile. My accommodation was paid for and I was picked up from the airport. While there, the dentists were in constant contact via WhatsApp to check on me and answer any questions I may have. They even helped me make other appointments (to get my nails done for instance). They are a lovely team who provide great service in a small family practice. The prices are extremely competitive, they really go above and beyond to carry out your treatment to a tight timeframe. From the moment I contacted the clinic (amongst almost 20 others in Serbia and Ukraine) I felt really at ease with Dr Popovic. He contacted me quickly, was happy to answer questions and offer suggestions. I made my decision to go with this place pretty quickly after speaking to Dr Nemanja Popovic. Mostly because of his easy manner and the timeframe he offered – which fitted perfectly with my requirements. Once I arrived in Belgrade, I was picked up from the airport and I quickly fell in love with the city. It’s a really beautiful and interesting place that feels incredibly safe. Which, as a woman travelling alone, was really important and made my trip a real breeze. Apartments and hotels are lovely and really kept to a high standard. The place I rented was beautiful and only a 20-minute walk from the practice, in a lovely part of the city. The people in Belgrade were also just so warm and friendly. The food, it was so good and most importantly cheap! The dental practice itself is small and not flashy. Honestly, at first and halfway through the treatment this caused me a little bit of concern. I was able to address these concerns with the doctor. The familiarity and personalised care that the practice provides, suited me more than an official, a snazzy hands-off office would. In terms of treatment, it was not Dr Popvic that carried mine out as I didn’t receive dental implants and he is a surgeon. It was mainly the wonderful and capable Dr Ivana Stamenic who handled my treatment, along with the straight-talking Dr Maja Manojlovic who carried out my 7 root canals. Dr Ivana is a young dentist who can do pretty much everything! She is very confident, genuinely seems to care about your well-being and (for me incredibly important) aesthetics. She has a great eye, was extremely helpful to me in figuring out what changes to make in order for my crowns and bridge to look good. She was also just so hard-working and dedicated throughout my treatment, I cannot praise her enough. Dr Popvic was also wonderful. He is very easy to get along with and was always available to ask questions of, or to offer advice and just generally around during treatment to smooth things over as he has a such an easy and clear manner, so helpful when you are in a foreign country and everyone is speaking a different language. Dr Ivana was capable and hard-working and even came in on her day off at the drop of a phone call as I was in pain. A really dedicated team who work incredibly hard, offer flexible and personalised treatment with patience and personality to boot.

Now, after almost 5 years I have a wonderful smileNikolic, Serbia, 17 06 20

I had Periodontitis a few years ago. I used to live in The Netherlands. Every dentist said that I had to take every tooth out. The artificial jaw was the only solution. As an oral surgeon, Dr Malbasic suggested to me an operation and a few implants. I hesitated for a long time, but in the end, I accepted. The whole procedure was accommodated to me because I could come only 2-3 times a year to Belgrade. Now, after almost 5 years I have a wonderful smile. I feel teeth as my own. I can eat everything. Dr Malbasic deserves every respect as much as the whole team. Besides a very big knowledge and skills, they are very kind. You can have a very good time with them because they have a good sense of humour. I would recommend Dr Malbasic team to everyone!

I did a couple of cosmological treatments at Luxadent. I was surprised by the results. The teeth were substantially improved and they look very natural. This is the key point. Johan Willemsens has a good feeling of how to improve the smile in a natural way without artificial looking teeth. He will not suggest "too white" or "too straight". I can fully rely on his advice. Also, he is very polite and nice person.

The work and patient care are comparable to the best I've ever had. The doctor and staff are very professional. If there any complaints it would be the long wait times but given we were there solely for the purpose of a dental visit it wasn't onerous. The work was completed in the scheduled time. Was a relatively scary treatment for me, but they were really helpful in making me feel comfortableRobyn, Romania, 02 07 18

Dental Aria was the first clinic that came up in my search. The work done was good, but I’m not sure the orthodontic retainer was worth the price. I’m not sure what the average cost of a retainer is. It’s a very nice clinic - clean and stylish. I think the price I saw on the website or advert was for a different type of procedure than what I actually wanted. It was a relatively scary treatment for me, but they were really helpful in making me feel comfortable.

Definitely worth the moneyStanley, Italy, 06 03 17

I am in Rome for several months, and broke two crowns. I could not wait to return home to have them repaired. One crown required a post, and the doctor also discovered a compromised filling, which he also repaired. He is extremely professional and competent. He is not cheap, but definitely worth the money. This was the most extensive dental work I've ever had, and took quite a while. I was quite comfortable, and experienced no pain. Dr. Maltese speaks reasonably good English as well.
