What are Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges, also called tooth bridges, are placed when patients have one or more teeth missing or have gaps between their teeth. It usually takes two visits to get dental bridges fitted and the procedure takes about two hours.

What different types of dental bridges are there?

Traditional dental bridges consist of two crowns placed on healthy teeth on either side of the missing teeth, or gap, and the bridge then covers the gap supported by the two crowns. Cantilever bridges are placed when there are healthy teeth only on one side of the bridge. Maryland bridges are bonded to the backs of teeth on either side of the bridge and are not connected to crowns. Implant retained bridges are bridges that are placed over implants fixed in the gums. These bridges are placed when several implants are surgically inserted.

Is fitting dental bridges painful?

The dentist will numb the area where the dental bridge is to be placed before performing the procedure. Patients will not feel any pain during the procedure.

When can I travel by air after fitting dental bridges?

Patients should be able to fly two days after fitting their dental bridge. If they feel any pain or sensitivity after the procedure, they should consult their dentist for medications or postpone their journey till the pain or sensitivity has abated.

How long does recovery after fitting dental bridges take?

If patients feel pain or sensitivity after a dental bridge is fitted, they should recover within a week.

How do I care for my teeth after fitting dental bridges?

Patients should follow a normal dental hygiene routine. Patients should brush and floss their teeth and maintain proper hygiene. Patients should avoid eating or drinking anything that is too hot, cold or too hard, for at least a week after the procedure.

What are the alternatives to fitting dental bridges?

Some alternatives to dental bridges are partial dentures or removable dentures.

Very professional and knowledgeableMargaret, Ireland, 01 12 19

My experience with Liam O Droma was very pleasant I have been to other dentists who carried out an x-ray and were willing to proceed with implants. I am glad I went to Liam O Droma as he was not completely happy at what he saw on inspection and referred me further for ct scan which showed up a whole different picture and now have to get a biopsy done Liam is very professional and knowledgeable I am glad my issues were noticed and that I was referred on further should I have gone along with any of the other 2 dentists they would have gone ahead drilling and putting in the implants without the proper examination. Thank you Liam o Droma.

Altogether a very pleasant experiencePhil, Ireland, 29 06 18

Having had false teeth for almost 50 years, replacing a failing set. Particularly the bottom teeth were going to be a challenge and so it proved. Hannah Flynn was not only extremely professional in ensuring the dentures looked right and fitted well. She was also very personable, easy to talk to and I can imagine she would put anyone at their ease. After the final fitting, I had to go back twice in a two week period for minor adjustments where my mouth had changed since the impressions. The dentures are now excellent. Given that the treatment was on a medical card, there was no difference in the way the work or the visits were handled to the way they would have been if I had been paying. Altogether a very pleasant experience. My wife has been using Flynn's for almost 20 years. The clinic is bright, modern, the reception staff/nurses are friendly, helpful and the care is excellent.

I’m happy with the work doneSandor, Ireland, 06 07 18

I had a molar extraction here. This was one of the highest rated dentists I could find online, and their prices looked good, too. They’re nice people, and I’d go back again. I’m happy with the work done. Because it was my first time visiting a dentist in Ireland, I didn’t really know what to expect. When I arrived, I thought it was a clean, good clinic, with very nice staff. Although it was small, the place was well-equipped. Good value for money. I’d highly recommend them!

Both professional and kindM, Ireland, 16 02 14

Check up & cleaning My 18 year old daughter was having problems with her wisdom teeth. She attended this clinic and was seen by Dr Tim O'Connell. She was delighted with her visit. Tim put her at ease immediately. He was both professional and kind. He took time to answer all her questions and gave her wonderful advice. He checked all her teeth and cleaned them for her. She had a very positive visit. From my point of view parking was easy, she was seen promptly, the surgery was bright and clean, everyone was friendly and professional and most importantly the fee was very reasonable. I would certainly recommend Midleton Dental Care.

The doctor is a gemLeonard, Ireland, 15 08 18

€85 for a molar filling. While Dr Ahmed Mahmond and the two other staff I spoke to were a pleasure. The practice is cramped and in need of a paint, this lets this practice look down. My treatment was interrupted twice by a nurse fetching supplies. The practice is outdated looking still Dr A is a gem, hence I will be back.
