What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is performed for dental procedures for anxious patients by administering medications to help them relax. Many patients avoid getting the required dental help because of their fear of the dentist. Sedation dentistry is performed to ensure that nervous patients enjoy healthy mouths and teeth.

What are the types of dental sedation?

The different types of dental sedation are; inhalation sedation, for patients requiring mild sedation also called anxiolysis; oral sedation, by asking patients to swallow a pill; TENS, using electrical impulses to numb the area; topical anaesthesia, using a swab to numb the area; or intra-venous sedation, for patients requiring moderate sedation and general anaesthesia for patients requiring deep sedation. Oral sedation, inhalation sedation, TENS and topical sedation are not painful. Intra-venous sedation and general anaesthesia need to be injected and patients may feel pain when the sedative is injected.

Patients should rest for at least three hours after sedation dentistry. They should not eat for at least four hours, until the anaesthesia wears off. They should take all prescribed medications correctly. They should resume work at least one day after sedation dentistry. They should not smoke or drink alcohol for at least two days after sedation dentistry. They should follow all dietary prescriptions given by their dentist correctly.

After several years of wanting to get my teeth done with a complete makeover, but consistently turned off by the prices in the United States, I finally bit the bullet and scheduled a trip to Los Algodones, Mexico. I chose Simply Dental, as they had one of the highest ratings based upon a large number of reviews. Although I initially chose 3 different dentists, they were the easiest to communicate with and coordinate with, so, they won out. Suffice it to say, they did not disappoint. The experience was better than I have ever had at a dentist office, professional, courteous and overall a great experience. I had 16 teeth pulled, implants put in and temporary dentures. I will be returning in 3-4 months to have the permanent dentures put in with the implants. The cost was about 1/3 of what you would pay for in the US, and there is no sacrifice in quality of materials or care. As always, there are good and bad, so, do some research pertaining to what you are looking for. These guys have my full backing!!

Dr. Jorge Arciga is a senior dentist who has managed Cabo San Lucas Dental Clinica since 1980 in the resort city of Los Cabos, Mexico offering quality dental services to local residents as well as international visitors form USA, Canada and other countries. Services; implants, teeth whitening, veneers, zirconia crowns and bridges; porcelain crowns and bridges, root canals, oral surgery, scaling and root planning, composite fillings. Fluent English spoken. Most enquiries of our patients are regarding to porcelain crowns and bridges so there goes summarized info: during a vacation of 6/7 days we can make and adapt porcelain fused on metal crowns or bridges, and still have time to make corrections before departure back home. Other popular service is full dentures; we can abbreviate the process of a denture or set of dentures and get it done by the second day, so we have several days in case that it needs corrections. We work under the same basis to perform other ceramic treatments such as veneers and ceramic (metal less) crowns. Implants are usually set and there is no pain or inflammation, however we have to do an accurate study to be sure you are candidate for an implant. Implants typically  take 2 stages, stage one or "surgical stage" is the placement of the titanium cylinder in the bone; it needs a period of between 2 and 8 months to "integrate" with the bone. I want to praise and commend the staff at Prize Smile in Tijuana, (yesterday on my final Denture fitting, I even got to meet Adrian the owner, who strives for excellence, at affordable prices. The staff Dr Isabel (my dentist) Tony, (our appt setter) & Denise here are wonderful. So as an American on a tight budget, I want to say never be afraid to cross the border and receive the best dental care better than the USA, from Prize Smile in Tijuana.
