Orthodontic Retainers are dental appliances made of plastic and metal wires. They are fitted for patients after orthodontic treatment is complete. What care is required after fitting an Orthodontic Retainer?

Patients should wear retainers continuously, between meals, and at night. They should remove their retainer while taking part in contact sports. They should clean retainers using special products prescribed by the dentist. Some retainers can be cleaned using toothpaste while others require an alcohol free mouth rinse or denture cleaner.  Patients should not expose retainers to any form of heat.
