What are Metal Braces?

Metal Braces are orthodontic appliances made of stainless steel or titanium. They are suitable for patients of all ages. They are the cheapest among braces and are considered the most effective. Once fitted, metal braces exert pressure on the tooth to move it to the correct position.  Orthodontists adjust the wires of metal braces at every appointment to make sure that the tooth moves correctly. It takes about one to three hours to fit metal braces.

For how long should I wear Metal Braces?

Patients need to wear metal braces for two to four years. The time taken to correct tooth alignment depends on the age of the patient and the needs of each individual patient.

Is having Metal Braces fitted painful?

Fitting metal braces is not a painful procedure. Patients will feel pain and discomfort after the braces are fitted, as pressure is exerted on the teeth to move them to their new position. The pain and discomfort diminishes as patients get used to their braces.

How are Metal Braces fitted?

The orthodontist will polish the teeth and paint the front surfaces with glue. The metal brackets will be pasted onto the teeth. A curing light is focused to fix the brackets. The orthodontist will thread a wire through the brackets and then place wires around the brackets to hold them in place.

What care is required after fitting Metal Braces?

Patients should practice proper dental hygiene and brush and floss their teeth correctly. Patients should use fluoride toothpaste. They should not eat hard or chewy food items that will damage their braces. Patients should attend their orthodontist appointments to ensure the correct fianl position of the teeth is achieved.

I'm really pleased with the results now it is overLynsey, UK, 16 12 16

I eventually had ceramic braces at the age of 30! After many years of being embarrassed by my teeth. I should have had it done much sooner as it was much easier and less intrusive than I thought it would be. I'm really pleased that I chose this Smilelux clinic as I couldn't have asked for a more welcoming place to come to. Saijel, Lacy and Kerrie we're always so kind and helpful and Dr Hirani was wonderful. I was always happy to come into treatment and I'm really pleased with the results now it is over. Thanks so much Smilelux team!

I have never had such efficient and high-quality dental careEltham, UK, 27 11 18

I had an upper premolar repaired with what I understand is a Zirconium Porcelain crown. This involved root canal work which was totally painless (after the initial injection). The crown itself is totally perfect; indistinguishable from a natural tooth in every aspect. I also had a filling replaced that had been done by a previous dentist. I'd never been happy with this filling before. It always felt rough and unfinished - but Dr Lesti is a perfectionist and after replacing the filling he refinished it so carefully that you can't tell it's there. I went privately, so I won't pretend it's not costly, but I wanted the best and I think it was worth it. I've been a bit phobic of dentists and have tended to avoid dental visits because I've had some bad experiences. I did a lot of research before choosing this clinic, I think that paid off because I have never had such efficient and high-quality dental care. There aren't enough superlatives to describe how I feel about this clinic and I'm delighted to have finally found one that I can trust. I'm going back soon to have another filling replaced.

Metal Braces from from £2500
Traditional metal braces are the most common type of braces used to straighten and align your teeth. Today’s metal braces are made of high-grade stainless steel, which are smaller, more comfortable and more attractive than in the past. Metal wires are attached to the front surfaces of your teeth through brackets. These wires are tightened over time, applying gentle pressure to the teeth which encourages them to move into a straighter position.

Smile TRU (invisible braces) from from £1950
Smile TRU is another invisible braces or clear orthodontic system, offered at Cathedral Dental Clinic is Smile TRU. It is similar to Invisalign which is designed for closing gaps and straightening crooked teeth. The advantage of these invisible braces is that they concentrate on the upper and lower front 8 teeth. This allows a much faster treatment period for patients of all ages. Smile TRU uses three-dimensional modelling to generate a series of clear aligners or “clear braces”. They are often referred to by many patients as “invisible braces”. The clear removable aligners are custom made and replaced every 2 weeks. Over time, they move your teeth into a position that gives you straight teeth, worthy of a big smile.

He was very professional, very honest and put myself at ease.Susan, UK, 07 03 17

I was going to have root canal treatment at this dental practice, as my own dentist would not do it. My own dentist had prepared my lower molar for a temporary crown as he said it was cracked, after putting the temporary crown on, it got badly infected and I had too have two lots of antibotics . He then put the permanent crown on even when I was still experiencing pain. I went back to my own dentist cause I still had pain, and said it needed to have a root canal filling, which he wouldn't do. So I decided to go private with 'The Edge' I found that after some investigations that the Edge Dentist had done, my lower molar was more damaged than what my own dentist was letting on. Whether my own dentist had diagnosed the problem in correctly and made my tooth worse. So unfortunately I had to have my tooth removed. I found this clinic a very good choice and they were excellent at explaining what had happened to my tooth. He was very professional, very honest and put myself at ease. I would definitely recommend this dentist. Also I rang the same day, got an appointment and was sorted by the next day. No waiting what so ever, very flexible with times.
