Labiaplasty is a general term for a variety of techniques used to alter the inner or outer labia and the external vulva for both aesthetic and functional reasons. Reduction and lifting techniques of the inner labia are the most common procedures within the field of intimate surgery. There are numerous reasons why women choose to undergo labial reduction surgery including discomfort during sport or sexual intercourse, a changed aesthetic appearance following childbirth or simply age-related stretching of the labia. Unevenness of the labial folds with a certain asymmetry of the inner labia and slight protruding inner lips are common and should be considered normal variations. Nevertheless, if those variations cause psychological distress a surgical correction can be an effective and straight-forward procedure. The outer labia may loose volume within ageing resulting in less coverage and over-exposition of the inner labia. This mismatch between lack of volume and excess skin can be corrected by a reduction of the outer and/or inner labia and a fat transfer to the outer labia. After weight loss or childbirth, the mons pubis may become be saggy or accumulate fat deposits, indicating a necessity for a pubic lift or a .
