What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a tooth shaped covering used as a cap over damaged teeth. The purpose of placing a crown is to improve the appearance and strength of the damaged tooth. Crowns are also placed over surgically inserted dental implants.

What are the different types of Dental Crowns?

The types of dental crowns include ceramic crowns, zirconia crowns, porcelain covered corrosion resistant metal crowns or porcelain fused to metal crowns, corrosion resistant metal crowns and gold crowns.

What is the best type of crown?

The best type of crown depends on the need of each individual patient and the position of the tooth. For instance, some people would find a gold crown placed on a front tooth unsightly. Ceramic, tooth coloured crowns placed on the front teeth maintain the natural appearence of the smile.

How long will a Dental Crown last?

Crowns are expected to last for about 5 years. Some crowns could last for up to 30 years. The life of a crown depends on the dental hygiene practiced by the patient and general wear and tear caused by biting, chewing or grinding. Crowns may crack if the patient has an accident.

Is it painful to get a Dental Crown?

Dentists inject local anaesthetic to numb the tooth and gum before placing the crown. The patient will not feel any pain while the crown is being placed. After the anaesthetic wears off the patient may feel mild pain or sensitivity for a few hours.

My crowns work was painless and within a day I felt the improvementsProf., Malta, 22 03 19

I am delighted to say that the remedial work undertaken by Dr Sarah last week has proved to be excellent, a 100% improvement. Thanks very much for your patience and diligence. Your team are very welcoming and friendly which helps put one in a very confident and relaxed state. My crowns work was painless and within a day I felt the improvements. Appointments were very well managed and revised without a quibble upon my request for postponements due to international commitments. The Demajo experience is a very good one and I happily endorse you without hesitation. I will tell all my friends, especially those needing a new experience. Am sure they will be as happy with the results as I am.

Once I got inside the actual dental clinic everything was absolutely state-of-the-artHilary, UK, 22 05 18

This clinic is actually attached to the hotel where I have a timeshare. I spoke to others who’d used the dentist and thought I’d meet with him myself to see what he was about. I was given a quote for the dental implant at the consultation and thought it was a reasonable price. The same procedure could easily have cost me three thousand pounds in the UK, but I was charged half of that in Malta. I had the procedure here largely because of the cost. I’m so happy with the results and would be delighted to promote the clinic! I’ll be honest, when I walked through the front door, I didn’t have very high expectations (the hotel was still under reconstruction at the time). Once I got inside the actual dental clinic everything was absolutely state-of-the-art. The place is superb and they have everything you could want. I also believe the quality of the treatment and service was higher than anything I’ve received in my home country. First, they needed to put the post in, and then I had to go home to let it settle. I went back to have the tooth inserted afterwards. My dental implants was a two-visit procedure. Definitely a 5-star experience.

The doctor is patient, yet firm and treatment are done swiftlyGiselle, Malta, 26 06 19

Excellent treatment and service for kids. Dr Audrey Camilleri is patient, yet firm and treatment are done swiftly. The clinic is equipped with various toys that help to distract the child during the procedure, as well as having toys in the waiting area which is always a good idea to keep kids occupied.
