What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a tooth shaped covering used as a cap over damaged teeth. The purpose of placing a crown is to improve the appearance and strength of the damaged tooth. Crowns are also placed over surgically inserted dental implants.

What are the different types of Dental Crowns?

The types of dental crowns include ceramic crowns, zirconia crowns, porcelain covered corrosion resistant metal crowns or porcelain fused to metal crowns, corrosion resistant metal crowns and gold crowns.

What is the best type of crown?

The best type of crown depends on the need of each individual patient and the position of the tooth. For instance, some people would find a gold crown placed on a front tooth unsightly. Ceramic, tooth coloured crowns placed on the front teeth maintain the natural appearence of the smile.

How long will a Dental Crown last?

Crowns are expected to last for about 5 years. Some crowns could last for up to 30 years. The life of a crown depends on the dental hygiene practiced by the patient and general wear and tear caused by biting, chewing or grinding. Crowns may crack if the patient has an accident.

Is it painful to get a Dental Crown?

Dentists inject local anaesthetic to numb the tooth and gum before placing the crown. The patient will not feel any pain while the crown is being placed. After the anaesthetic wears off the patient may feel mild pain or sensitivity for a few hours.

Drs Demajo Dental and Implantology Clinics

Rating from 223 Reviews Painless surgerySonja, Malta, 21 Jun 15

My recent experience with implant surgery was a somewhat lengthy procedure. It started in April 2014 and was concluded most satisfactorily in June 2015. The original bridge was replaced with two implants which followed textbook procedure. However, due to accidental damage the adjoining tooth was extracted and a third implant was inserted. One of the best recommendations offered by Dr Jean Paul was to have a Guide for the first two implants. This ensured flapless and painless surgery and I highly recommend this procedure. The third implant was problematic and required a bone graft and Dr Jean Paul was very professionaly able to insert the bone graft and the implant simultaneously. However, when it came to the final attachment of the teeth to the metal implants, the first two teeth were attached in 20 minutes but the third difficult tooth resisted all Dr Jean Paul's endeavours. It took four hours but finally the tooth was super glued to the implant Finally, a couple of weeks later when I registered dissatisfaction with this third tooth, Dr Jean Paul replaced it with a brand new tooth and this is now all really excellent. Dr Jean Paul's recommendation that the actual teeth be of superior porcelain with no metal was totally justified;. I highly recommend Dr Jean Paul for his totally experienced and professional implant surgery. I have been a patient of Drs Demajo Dental clinic for fifteen years and had previously had an implant inserted ten years ago by Dr Packy Demajo. So naturally, knowing the excellent reputation of his son, Dr jean Paul, as an Implant Surgeon, I chose him for my recent implant surgery. I have no hesitation in recommending Dr Jean Paul to any potential patient.

Rating from 3 Reviews The dentist was very professional and talked me through itPer, Norway, 23 Dec 16

Excellent. I did a dental cleaning and one filling. Price of the filling was 40 euro while the cleaning and xray pictures cost me 30. The filling was quite deep and I got two needles with anesthetics. I have very low tolerance to pain, but the dentist was very professional and talked me through it, very calmly. My wife was also very happy with her treatment. Excellent. The facade is quite hidden, just beside a pharmacy. Inside it was nice and clean with very professional staff. There's clean restroom and waiting room with tv and english magazines/newspapers.
