What are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are thin, tooth coloured coverings also known as porcelain laminates used to cover the front of the tooth. They are placed to improve the appearance of smiles by changing the colour, length or size of teeth. The porcelain used to make the veneers is of a high quality and is generally long lasting.

What is the difference between Porcelain Veneers and Dental Crowns?

Porcelain veneers are only used to cosmetically correct the appearance of smiles. They only cover the front portion of the tooth. Dental crowns cover the entire tooth and are used to cover damaged teeth. Crowns are also placed over surgically inserted dental implants. Crowns are thicker than veneers. The patient’s tooth structure does not need much reduction for the placement of a porcelain veneer. A major portion of the tooth structure has to be reduced before the placement of a crown.

How long do Porcelain Veneers last?

Porcelain veneers last between 10 and 20 years. Patients need to follow the dental maintenance care instructions strictly to ensure that their porcelain veneers don’t wear out or chip. Porcelain veneers are the strongest and costliest type of veneer.

Is it painful getting Porcelain Veneers?

The dentist will administer a local anaesthetic before placing porcelain veneers. This is because the teeth of some patients are more sensitive than others. Since very little tooth structure is reduced for placing veneers, patients will not feel pain after veneers are placed. Some patients may feel a little soreness or sensitivity for a few days after the anaesthesia wears off.

Very Good value for all the work involvedMary-Jane, Malta, 08 05 17

I was referred to this Clinic by a family member, but I had to see for myself. I was unhappy with previous work done at another Clinic. I thought maybe I could go for implants. Unfortunately having Implants was not a safe procedure for me, but the Dental Surgeon came up with a "Plan B". He fixed movable prosthesis manufactured at the on site laboratory with porcelain teeth. After the initial Consultation, everything was planned with no hassle and the procedure done in a short period of about 10 days. I was so apprehensive and scared before I came to this Clinic but I am now very happy & comfortable with the result. The competent and fully qualified Dental Surgeon, the modern technology being used and the pleasant atmosphere made me choose this Clinic. Above all, the reassurance given during my initial consultations made me decide to go ahead with whatever needed to be done on the advice given. I am very happy with the results and I wish I had been referred to this Clinic in the first place. I will have no doubt if & when I need to have more work done in the near future. Very Good value for all the work involved and the onsite laboratory was a real bonus.

Another possibility to crowning of anterior teeth is Veneers. These are wafer thin shells of porcelain, which are bonded onto the front of natural teeth. These veneers correct discoloured, chipped, twisted or otherwise malformed teeth. Although rather thin in manufacture, on bonding these become an intrinsic part of the tooth and are strong and resilient to normal everyday wear and tear.

Porcelain Veneers
Veneers
A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain made to fit over the front surface of the tooth. Sometime, a natural composite material is used instead of porcelain. It can improve the colour, shape and position of teeth. A precise shade of porcelain can be chosen to give the right colour to improve a single discoloured or stained tooth or to lighten front teeth. We use the finest porcelain veneers available to restore crooked, damaged, or discolored teeth. A veneer can make a chipped tooth look intact. It covers the whole front part of the tooth with thicker surface replacing the fractured part. Veneers can be used to close small gaps, if orthodontic treatment is not suitable. If one tooth is slightly out of position to the rest, a veneer is sometimes fitted to bring it in line with the other teeth.

In short, I left this very well organized dental clinic with a huge smileStephen, Malta, 17 01 20

Today I went in thinking that I needed a root canal. My dentist was Dr Micallef, he was extremely kind and very informative. After taking a look at my tooth, he suggested that I leave it as is. He was very honest and actually I wasn’t even charged a penny for his time and consultation. In short, I left this very well organized dental clinic with a huge smile. Thank you so much, Dr Micallef. Highly recommended in my honest opinion.

The dentist was very professional and talked me through itPer, Norway, 23 12 16

Excellent. I did a dental cleaning and one filling. Price of the filling was 40 euro while the cleaning and xray pictures cost me 30. The filling was quite deep and I got two needles with anesthetics. I have very low tolerance to pain, but the dentist was very professional and talked me through it, very calmly. My wife was also very happy with her treatment. Excellent. The facade is quite hidden, just beside a pharmacy. Inside it was nice and clean with very professional staff. There's clean restroom and waiting room with tv and english magazines/newspapers.

I would have no hesitation recommendingAnn-Marie, Ireland, 22 01 15

I was delighted with my treatment at The Thames Dental Clinic. The clinic was very modern and the staff were very friendly which is always great to see. The clinic is located very close to the bus stop which was very convenient and also directly beside a pharmacy. This made is very easy for me to pick up my medication. The very good prices they have on offer was an important factor when i chose the clinic for my consultation and treatment. The communication between myself and the clinic was very good and i had no problem making my appointment as they were very helpful through email conversations. I would have no hesitation recommending The Thames Dental Clinic to anybody looking for dental treatment.
