What are Veneers?

Veneers are thin shells, also called dental laminates, that are used to cover unsightly teeth and give patients attractive smiles. They are easy to place and can quickly improve the smile of patients with dental cracks and stains, and for patients who have gaps between their teeth.

What is the difference between Veneers and Dental Crowns?

Veneers cover only the front portion of teeth. Crowns cover or replace the entire tooth. Crowns are therefore thicker than veneers. A major portion of the tooth needs to be reduced before placing a crown while only a small portion of the tooth needs to be reduced before placing a veneer. A crown is used for covering damaged teeth and is also placed over a dental implant. A veneer is only used for cosmetic purposes.

What are the best types of Veneers?

The best type of veneer depends on the needs of each individual patient. Some veneers can be easily placed without much tooth preparation. Some veneers are suitable for severely damaged teeth. Some veneers can be easily made in the clinic and patients do not have to wait long for their placement. Some veneers are cheaper than others and are suitable for patients looking for a low cost option.  Your dentist should discuss the options with you so you can make the best choice.

How long before you can eat after getting Veneers?

Dentists recommend that patients eat only soft foods after veneers are placed, and for the first few days, until they get used to them. Veneers are normally bonded firmly to teeth and patients can eat any type of food.

What are Veneers made from?

Veneers are made from ceramic, composite resins or zirconium.

Drs Demajo Dental and Implantology Clinics

2778 1157 Head Office 1/3 Marina Court, Giuseppe Cali Street, Ta' Xbiex, 1421
Rating from 223 Reviews Restored my confidence!J, UK, 22 Mar 15

12 all ceramic crowns, inlays and veneers. Extraction of and placement of two implants with simultaneous bone grafting followed by a screw-retained all-ceramic bridge in zirconia. All lab work onsite. I am very pleased with all the work done and the costs were as quoted. I am also using the practice as my day to day dentist as I have been very disappointed with the attitude and treatment from dentists local to my home in the UK and consider the extra costs involved in travelling well worth it. I dreaded going to the dentist here at home but Jean Paul and his staff have restored my confidence! I must also praise the excellent transport to and from the airport (provided free) and the onsite accommodation (also included in the package) made visiting the clinic very easy indeed!

Another possibility to crowning of anterior teeth is Veneers. These are wafer thin shells of porcelain, which are bonded onto the front of natural teeth. These veneers correct discoloured, chipped, twisted or otherwise malformed teeth. Although rather thin in manufacture, on bonding these become an intrinsic part of the tooth and are strong and resilient to normal everyday wear and tear.

Veneers €275
In just two or three dental visits, a veneer can reverse years of stains caused by foods, caffeine and tobacco use. Special thin laminates, called veneers, can also be used to correct discolored, worn down, cracked and chipped teeth. Veneers can also be used to close unsightly gaps between teeth. Stronger types of veneers made of porcelain, as opposed to composite veneers, typically last longer. An impression of the tooth must be made and a veneer molded by a lab technician. Because veneers require a small amount of enamel to be removed, they are permanent and non-reversible. The process involves buffing the tooth, removing an extremely thin layer of the tooth to allow for the thickness of the veneer, an impression of the tooth, and final bonding of the veneer to the tooth with special cement. A special light is used to complete the process.
