What are Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins, also known as varicosities, are thick and dark blue or purple veins that are seen in the lower limbs of patients. They are caused by damaged or poorly functioning valves within the veins. Surgical and nonsurgical procedures are used to treat varicose veins.

How are Varicose Veins treated?

Varicose veins are treated by making patients wear compression stockings, by helping them to lose weight, by sclerotherapy, injecting  a chemical into the vein to make it collapse, laser and radiofrequency assisted procedures, phlebectomy procedures, where veins are removed by making small cuts on the surface of the skin and by surgical procedures involving tying or stripping of the varicose veins.

Are Varicose Vein treatments painful?

Minimally invasive treatments for varicose veins are performed after administering local anaesthetic to the treatment area. Surgical varicose vein removal procedures are performed under general anaesthesia. Patients will not feel any pain during the procedures.

When will I recover after Varicose Veins treatments?

It takes about five weeks to completely recover from minimally invasive and surgical varicose vein treatments.

What care is required after Varicose Vein treatments?

Patients should take all prescribed medications correctly. They should wear compression stockings to prevent blood clots. They should not wear tight clothing or high heeled shoes. They should elevate their legs while sitting. They should not smoke or drink alcohol. They should not gain weight after varicose vein treatments. They should avoid strenuous exercise and lifting heavy objects for at least two weeks.

My experience with The Chiltern Medical Clinic was really goodAlexandra, UK, 24 11 16

The service I received during my facial thread veins treatment was fantastic. I chose this clinic as it was close to where I live and the website looked very professional. It seemed like a very exclusive clinic where VIPs and celebrities might attend. This reassured me and made me feel like the clinic was legitimate. The clinic itself lived up to the impression I got from the website, it looked great. I liked how the entrance was slightly out of the way and not on a main street. The waiting room also had a really nice ambiance and put me at ease before I entered for my treatment. The treatment itslf was good value, I may have to go back for more treatment to get my desired results, but I was warned about this prior to the treatment taking place. I will definitely choose this clinic for the remainder of my treatment. The prices were the same as I was quoted over the phone. The lady that treatment me was really great, she had a very calming influence on me and explained everything to me. I was late to my appointment and it was no problem, they were very understanding and accommodated me. They sent me some literature to read through to understand the procedure I got more and the healing process and offered me a follow up appointment.

Varicose Veins Treatment
Sclerotherapy from £195
An effective form of treatment for spider veins is Sclerotherapy. This procedure requires injecting a solution using small needles into the veins, forcing blood to reroute through healthier veins. The spider veins will then collapse and eventually fade. The procedure typically improves not only the cosmetic appearance, but associated symptoms as well.
Varicose Veins Treatment from £350
Spider veins are fine dilated veins most commonly appearing on the surface of the thigh and are red, blue or purple in colour. Approximately 1 in 3 women are affected by these, however men can also suffer from them. Varicose veins are swollen veins that tend to be larger and more prominent than spider veins. Both problems can be very distressing, with symptoms including aching, restless legs, swollen feet/ankles and night cramps. Don’t suffer in silence if you are affected by leg veins. With our advanced laser treatments and sclerotherapy procedure, you can achieve incredible results, drastically improving the appearance of your legs. At the Chiltern Medical Clinic, leg vein treatments – including venous ulceration – are administered byDr Stephen Tristram, who is an Associate Specialist in Vascular Surgery. Dr Tristram has appeared on BBC Television’s The One Show discussing the treatment of varicose veins and demonstrating an innovative non-surgical technique which is available in our clinics.
Vein Stripping
Facial Veins from £190
New advances in laser technology allow us to safely and effectively remove small, spider-like veins on the face and nose called telangiectasia. For men and women alike, these veins are generally part of the ageing process, caused by over exposure to the sun, the result of hormones, or simply due to genetics.

I am delighted with the result and would definitely recommend the doctorMary, UK, 19 11 18

I required a minor skin treatment (removal of a very unsightly and annoying skin tag very close to my eye). I did not want to pay a fortune so was very happy to find the Wrinkle Doctor to be very reasonably priced. Tamsin was really lovely and gave me lots of time to explain the procedure. I am delighted with the result and would definitely recommend Dr Hayward.

I’m happy with the resultsAnonymous, UK, 16 07 18

I shopped around a bit before I decided to use The Cooden Medical Group for varicose veins treatment. I’m happy with the results and we’ll have my next follow-up in three weeks time. The first time I went to the clinic, it was a bit hard to find, but this is because I didn’t have an actual building number. I arrived late and in a great state. But they were very kind and tried to help me. The consultant was very good, but I didn’t feel like I could ask him questions. It was a little intimidating, but I think I was a bit over-awed. Other than this, he was very kind. He was very skilled at his job and this was the most important aspect for me. They gave me some advice regarding the pain. I had some Nurofen at home, so I used this. I don’t think I was sufficiently prepared and this is partly because my sister in Canada had the varicose treatment last year. She was able to drive herself home afterwards. I responded much differently and the after-effects were worse than expected. I think the clinic should let patients know that they might be very uncomfortable for a week afterwards. Things are fine now, though. I’m satisfied.
