The shape of the calf significantly determines the look of your whole leg. Due to genetic givens or deformities left from an accident the leg can be too thin and shapeless. Calf augmentation offers a solution to these problems. At the first consultation our plastic surgeon examines you, shows you the different types of implants and offers you a personalized recommendation concerning the plastic procedure.

The technique involves injection of fluid, including local anaesthetic, into the area to be refined prior to the actual procedure, the so-called tumescent technique. This is an outstanding procedure with low morbidity and predictable results if patient selection criteria are strict and technique is sound. Surface bruising will usually resolve in 10 to 14 days. Pleasing improvement is noticeable within 7 to 14 days. The final result will usually be evident after 8 to 10 weeks. Careful evaluation of the skin tone is required. The patient's age and the amount of fat to be removed from a particular area can and will influence the "tone" of the skin after the procedure and this is discussed prior to the procedure.

Procedure: Calf augmentation with implants improves the size and appearance of the calf area of the lower leg by inserting a silicone implant producing a cosmetic enhancement. Inpatient/Outpatient: This is an inpatient procedure. Possible Side Effects : Mild to moderate temporary discomfort and swelling, mild bruising. Risks : The implant may need to be removed and/or replaced to treat problems including: implant rupture, formation of scar tissue around the implant (capsular contraction), which may cause the calf to feel tight or hard, bleeding, infection and implant misplacement. Insurance : Most cosmetic surgery procedures are considered elective and therefore not covered under medical insurance. Because complications may occur even with the most qualified surgeon ,In DR you can acquired, as an extra cost, an insurance with limited coverage for eventualities in  first 30 days post-op. Recovery : The patient must wear a  moderate compression stockings for two weeks after the surgery and avoid exercise for several weeks. The patient should not consume alcohol after surgery. Alcohol consumption may be resumed after three weeks. Bruising and swelling should be gone after several weeks. Results : The outcomes vary from patient to patient; however, the overall effect is the enhancement of the calf size for an improved appearance. Visiting us : You must visit our office for the pre-op evaluation 2 days before the surgical day ( if traveling from USA / America ) or  4 days (if traveling from Europe) and stay in DR for at least 14 days for post-op follow up.
