What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is performed for dental procedures for anxious patients by administering medications to help them relax. Many patients avoid getting the required dental help because of their fear of the dentist. Sedation dentistry is performed to ensure that nervous patients enjoy healthy mouths and teeth.

What are the types of dental sedation?

The different types of dental sedation are; inhalation sedation, for patients requiring mild sedation also called anxiolysis; oral sedation, by asking patients to swallow a pill; TENS, using electrical impulses to numb the area; topical anaesthesia, using a swab to numb the area; or intra-venous sedation, for patients requiring moderate sedation and general anaesthesia for patients requiring deep sedation. I had a Bridge fitted by Dr. Busru Cinar in the Galway clinic because my two front teeth had become loose and partly decayed. It was value for money because the attention to detail was superb, the staff were very informative, and I'm very happy with the outcome. I chose this clinic based on the reviews and on the information I received on the first visit. Overall I would have no hesitation in recommending 3Dental Galway.

Couldn’t recommend Seapoint Clinic more. The staff are honestly some of the friendliest I’ve ever come across, really warm and welcoming from the moment I walked in. I’m quite a nervous patient, but they made the whole experience feel calm and reassuring. Everything was explained clearly, and I never felt rushed or judged. The place is spotless and has a lovely, calm atmosphere too. I left feeling surprisingly at ease and actually feel good about coming back (which is saying a lot for me!). Big thanks to the whole team.

This allows us to avoid damage to important nerves in the jaws and to the sinuses. With the CT scanner we can tell before your implant visit whether your bone is suitable, instead of having to undergo a painful investigation under an anesthetic.We have fully computerised planning systems which allow us to perform surgery in a virtual environment to ensure optimum results. After a lot of research, I decided to make an appointment at Shields Dental. I needed a few crowns and a bridge. I was so impressed with their website that I made the decision to travel a two-hour journey and have a chat about what I wanted. From the moment I entered the clinic, the atmosphere was happy and relaxed, especially with Anne in reception. My appointment was with Cormac and I was put at ease instantly. All my options were explained, and the cost was also discussed. I felt the whole experience was first class and I’m totally happy with the work carried out. I’m delighted I chose Shields Dental & Implant Clinic in Roscrea. I can recommend them 100%.

Sedation is a safe and effective technique, offering anxyliotic, hypnotic, muscle relaxant and amnesic properties (in effect sleepy with nil or little memory recall).  Suited ideally for 1) nervous anxious patients, 2) long dental procedures, and 3) local conditions such as poor gag and limited mouth opening throughout treatment.
