What is a Dental Check-up?

A dental check-up, or dental examination, is performed by a hygienist or dentist to check the teeth, gums and mouth of patients. They will check if the patient has cavities or oral cancer and also if they have any other oral disease during the check-up. An extensive examination consisting of fifteen points is performed on the patient’s first visit. Routine examinations are performed after the patient attends the clinic several times.   

Is a Dental Check-up painful?

A dental check-up is not painful. The dentist or hygienist detects dental and oral problems during the check-up. The patient who comes for the check-up could be experiencing pain before the check-up.   

How long does recovery after a Dental Check-up take?

A dental check-up does not involve any intervention. The dentist or hygienist will only detect the problem and arrange for further treatment to be performed, if necessary.  The need for recovery will arise only after the problem is treated.

How do I care for my teeth after a Dental Check-up?

Patients should follow all the oral hygiene instructions given to them by the hygienist or dentist after the dental check-up. If a dental or oral problem is detected they should attend the clinic for the treatment appointment correctly to prevent the problem from getting worse. They should get a dental check-up done twice a year for long term dental and oral health.

Couldn’t recommend Seapoint Clinic more. The staff are honestly some of the friendliest I’ve ever come across, really warm and welcoming from the moment I walked in. I’m quite a nervous patient, but they made the whole experience feel calm and reassuring. Everything was explained clearly, and I never felt rushed or judged. The place is spotless and has a lovely, calm atmosphere too. I left feeling surprisingly at ease and actually feel good about coming back (which is saying a lot for me!). Big thanks to the whole team.

Dental implants are a particular area of expertise at the Seapoint Clinic. Our dentists have been thoroughly trained with some of the worlds greatest experts and have completed hundreds of implant treatments successfully. We have everything we could possibly need onsite to provide implants in a safe and caring environment. We are one of the only dental clinics in Ireland to have a dental CT scanner. This allows us to avoid damage to important nerves in the jaws and to the sinuses. With the CT scanner we can tell before your implant visit whether your bone is suitable, instead of having to undergo a painful investigation under an anesthetic.We have fully computerised planning systems which allow us to perform surgery in a virtual environment to ensure optimum results. Such equipment doesnt come cheap but as we place so many implants we keep the cost to the patient much lower than you would expect for such technological innovation.

On your first visit, we conduct a very detailed assessment of your mouth, teeth and gums. Checkups at navan DentalThis involves: recording a medical history, asking you about any medical conditions you may have, or medication you are taking, which could influence the health of your mouth recording each individual tooth, fillings and areas of concern conducting a thorough examination including checking your jaw points for signs of abnormalities or disease conductinga free cancer screening which checks the soft tissues of your mouth checking the gums for signs of any current or past gum disease checking the teeth for any decay or abnormal wear taking x-rays of the inside of your mouth so we can monitor areas of concern making appropriate recommendations of any treatments which may be required, based upon our findings Good communication is essential and therefore we allocate sufficient time to both examine the patient and listen attentively to your observations and desires. Often the patient knows more about their dental condition than the dentist. So if you have any problems or queries, then please do not hesitate to inform or ask us. It is important for you to have regular dental examinations so that your dentist can help you to maintain a healthy mouth and also check for any early signs of dental problems, such as decay or gum disease. They enable your dentist to correct problems before they become complicated and require extensive treatment.

Root canal treatment (also called Endodontics) is needed when the pulp (nerve) inside your tooth becomes infected through decay or damaged by an injury to your mouth. This infection may spread through the nerve system, which could eventually lead to an abscess, causing a great deal of pain and swelling. If root canal treatment is not carried out, the tooth may need to be taken out. Our dentists can perform root canal treatment to stop the infection from spreading and will preserve as much of your tooth as possible. Using specific techniques and advanced equipment, you will receive a local anaesthetic and the treatment overall should feel no different to having an ordinary filling placed. The aim of the treatment is to remove all infection from within the nerve system. The root is then cleaned, shaped and filled to try to prevent any further infection. A temporary filling is placed and the tooth is then left to settle. The tooth is checked at a later visit and when all the infection has cleared, the tooth is definitively filled. Root canal treatment is a skilled and time – consuming procedure and most courses of treatment will involve two or more visits.

I had an extremely positive, pain-free experience with tooth extraction at the Oral Specialist clinic with Dr Junaid Nayyar. I was extremely anxious about the prospect and opted for IV sedation, which worked extremely well for me. The consultation process was also very positive and reassuring. If you have to get a tooth out this is the place to go!
