What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is performed for dental procedures for anxious patients by administering medications to help them relax. Many patients avoid getting the required dental help because of their fear of the dentist. Sedation dentistry is performed to ensure that nervous patients enjoy healthy mouths and teeth.

What are the types of dental sedation?

The different types of dental sedation are; inhalation sedation, for patients requiring mild sedation also called anxiolysis; oral sedation, by asking patients to swallow a pill; TENS, using electrical impulses to numb the area; topical anaesthesia, using a swab to numb the area; or intra-venous sedation, for patients requiring moderate sedation and general anaesthesia for patients requiring deep sedation. General anaesthesia is used for patients only in a hospital and not in a dentist chair.

Is Sedation Dentistry painful?

Oral sedation, inhalation sedation, TENS and topical sedation are not painful. Intra-venous sedation and general anaesthesia need to be injected and patients may feel pain when the sedative is injected.

When can I travel by air after Sedation Dentistry?

Patients should travel by air two days after sedation dentistry. They should take the advice of their dentist before embarking on their journey.

How long does recovery after Sedation Dentistry take?

Recovery from dental sedation takes between 40 to 90 minutes. Recovery depends on the type of sedation administered.

What after care is required after Sedation Dentistry?

Patients should rest for at least three hours after sedation dentistry. They should not eat for at least four hours, until the anaesthesia wears off. They should take all prescribed medications correctly. They should resume work at least one day after sedation dentistry. They should not smoke or drink alcohol for at least two days after sedation dentistry. They should follow all dietary prescriptions given by their dentist correctly.

IV Sedation  Dental phobia is very common and nothing to be embarrassed about. We meet patient every day who have struggled to go to the dentist for years and we are happy to help anyone in this difficult situation. We understand why people are nervous of the dentist and we make every effort to ensure your days of bad dental experiences are over.
Dental Implants (Titanium) from €1995
Dental implants are a particular area of expertise at the Seapoint Clinic. Our dentists have been thoroughly trained with some of the worlds greatest experts and have completed hundreds of implant treatments successfully. We have everything we could possibly need onsite to provide implants in a safe and caring environment. We are one of the only dental clinics in Ireland to have a dental CT scanner. This allows us to avoid damage to important nerves in the jaws and to the sinuses. With the CT scanner we can tell before your implant visit whether your bone is suitable, instead of having to undergo a painful investigation under an anesthetic. We have fully computerised planning systems which allow us to perform surgery in a virtual environment to ensure optimum results. Such equipment doesnt come cheap but as we place so many implants we keep the cost to the patient much lower than you would expect for such technological innovation.
Dental Crowns €800 - €1300
Crowns are used where a tooth has been significantly weakened from decay or old fillings or trauma. Cosmetic crowns are also used to improve the appearance of teeth that have had old fillings or in poor positions.

The staff are so lovelySusan, Ireland, 02 12 25

I recently went for an assessment at the 3 Dental on Aungier Street. Now I am a nervous patient, but I have to say, it was a great experience. The staff are so lovely, very friendly, and very thorough. From the minute you go into reception until the minute you leave, you are treated so respectfully. I know when I go back for treatment after having my assessment, I won't be half as nervous..I highly recommend 3 Dental on Aungier Street. I visited with a view to getting implants, as I've had terrible trouble with my teeth since having chemo, and I have partial dentures, but would prefer something permanent. I haven't had the treatment yet, but when I do, I know I am in very good hands.
