AST Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation - Physiotherapy Clinic in Ireland

AST Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation

Ascon House, Euro Business Park, Cork
We, Adrian and Susanne studied Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation in Germany. Until late 1995 we managed our own Clinics in Germany, when we then decided to move to Ireland.  The core competency of AST is Day Care Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at the highest international level. The clinic was established and positioned as Patient Rehabilitation in its own right and is external to hospitals but medically positioned at an equivalent level.    By working with patients having serious conditions ( Stroke, spinal Cord injuries, cerebral palsy etc..)   , AST strives to return people to a higher health level where they can enjoy a level of freedom not previously thought possible, return to work at an appropriate level, and where they can enjoy a quality of life previously also not thought possible .

“Specialising in Manual Therapy & Exercise Prescription with a commitment to full Rehabilitation.”Our Commitment…..We’re committed to giving clients an Understanding of their Condition. Understanding empowers people to make wise choices concerning their pain, their condition and their rehabilitation. Thorough assessment of clients facilitates a clear diagnosis. With this understanding, courses of treatment can be discussed between therapist and client, and onward referrals to General Practitioners and Specialists can be given if physiotherapy is not the best course of treatment. We’re committed to a Hands-on Approach when treating musculoskeletal, respiratory and neurological conditions. While electrotherapy machines can play a part in effective treatment of certain conditions, they cannot replace or give the clinician crucial feedback like massage, soft-tissue and joint mobilisation. It is this hands-on feedback that aids our therapists in effective treatment. We’re committed to Full Rehabilitation. While hands-on physiotherapy can be intense with often immediate results being experienced and quantified, our clients are participants in the rehabilitation process. Graduated stretching and home exercise regimes are an integral part of treatment to restore normal function and strength to body parts which may otherwise be prone to re-injury.

Dry Needling
Dry needling is the insertion of sterile single use acupuncture needles directly into myofascial (muscular) trigger points.  Trigger points are tight, tender knots within the muscle which cause and contribute to pain within the body.  Research studies have shown that inserting such needles into trigger points causes favourable biochemical changes within the body, which help reduce pain. Although dry needling uses the same needles as acupuncture, it is not the same technique.  Dry needling is strictly based upon Western medicine principles of treating myofascial trigger points, which are different to traditional acupuncture points. Dry needling can be used to treat a variety of musculoskeletal problems as the treatment of muscles with this technique can reduce pain mechanisms and break down pain cycles. It is best used in combination with the specific rehabilitation programme as prescribed by your physiotherapist.
