I decided at the age of 50 to have breast implants and was recommended by Mr Awf Quaba who specialised in this field. My operation took place at the Murrayfield Spire and I was well looked after before and after my operation. Unfortunately, 4 years on I was getting breast implant illness symptoms, I was in a lot of discomfort in the breast area, had hair thinning, anxiety, ocular migraine headaches and developed an autoimmune disease which had to be treated. After reading about BII I decided in 2021 to see Mr Quaba once again to get his advice. I must say he was very understanding and told me the pros and cons of getting a full capsulectomy which removes the implants and capsules surrounding them. In October 2021 I was booked into the Shawfair Spire Hospital and Mr Quaba performed by full capsulectomy which was very successful. 6 months down the line I am feeling so much better with no breast pain, my hair has got thicker and no ocular migraine headaches. I am also down to 2mg of steroids and my neck and shoulder pain has almost gone with my scars hardly visible. I can honestly say Mr Quaba has looked after me so well and I would highly recommend anyone who is considering explant surgery to seek advice from such a professional. These are not cheap procedures but all in all, it was well worth the money to get my health back!

I was super anxious as this was my first time under general anaesthetic, but the team at Waterfront Private Hospital were amazing from start to finish. Dr. Will Anderson explained everything clearly and put me at ease from the consultation onwards. On the day, Damien greeted me by name (he’s definitely my “fairy godmother” of the day!) and made me feel welcome straight away. Joanna, my anaesthetist, and Piel in surgery were so friendly and reassuring, which kept me calm. When I woke up, Isabella was by my side, making sure I was comfortable and cared for. Everyone went above and beyond, and despite my anxiety, I felt completely supported. Highly recommend.
Initial consultation was in January 2022 where I had some idea of the procedure and decided to make a booking in to consult with Professor Mahajan. The procedure was to remove a Dorsal Hump that was negatively affecting me about my appearance. The consultation was a brief introduction to the procedure, why I wanted to do it, how long I had been thinking about it, when I would like to do it, aftercare and post procedure. I was well informed and happily filled out the consent documentation, however there was an extensive waiting list post COVID and so I was waiting for several months, after being contacted later on in the year with spaces available I decided to stay on the waiting list due to financial reasons, and was then contacted again in the year, but then removed myself from the waiting list as being very busy. Come the following year towards the end of 2023 the thought of having the procedure was much more viable and so I went in for another consultation with Professor Mahajan, re-signing the paper work and requested a date for January 2024 which his secretary kindly accommodated for and that was suitable for me. On procedure day, I was quite relaxed with a 7am arrival, brief words from the professor, nurse, anaesthetist to inform me of what’s going to happen during the day and calming the nerves and taking food orders as well. Around 10am I was taken into prep and put on general anaesthetic, and procedure was underway, a few hours later I woke up feeling well with no bruises, no black eyes and a large covering over my nose of course. I was returned to my own room to rest, having to stay overnight, the nurses looked after me well, coming to see me every few hours and providing food. The following day I was collected late afternoon to go home. I had a 6 week and 12 week check up to ensure all is healing and settling well which it was and the Professor then released me back to the care of my GP. Overall, a great experience, smooth and efficient and I got what I wanted. Happier and more confident.
