The Therapy Room in Athy Co. Kildare is a counselling and psychotherapy clinic founded in 2020 by Eileen M Higgins, an experienced and accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. Eileen offers compassionate and person-centred therapy for clients dealing with issues such as abuse, addiction, anger management, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, and personal growth.

I am a fully qualified psychotherapist and counsellor, receiving a first class honours degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy from PCI College. I am also a fully accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and adhere to its ethical guidelines.   With over fifteen years experience in the field of personal development,  I have an integrative style to counselling with a person centred approach at its core.  I call on a wide range of techniques such as Mindfulness, CBT, Gestalt and Solution Focused Brief Therapy to work with whatever a client may bring to a session. I endeavour to create a safe, supportive and confidential space for each person to explore their personal challenges at their own pace.  I have experience working with both couples and individuals on a wide range of issues including (but not limited to) anxiety and depression, low self-esteem, bereavement, sexuality and sexual abuse, addiction, intimacy and relationship issues, sports injuries and post traumatic stress. Lisa has been working for over ten years with couples and individuals who are experiencing relationship difficulties including communication and dealing with conflict, infidelity, stress and stressful lifestyles that are affecting their relationship, sexual intimacy, domestic violence, parenting and growing apart.  Some relationships will come to an end and this may be because, for example, the couple have grown apart or that there has been an infidelity, etc and they need help to deal with the emotional and practical aspects of this decision. Separation is life changing and is usually accompanied by upsetting feelings (either leading up to the separation or afterwards).  Although natural, these feelings can be very unsettling regardless of whether you were the one to leave or the one who was left behind.  She also has considerable experience working with second relationships and step families, helping clients to understand better the complexities of this unique family dynamic.   Lisa also works with clients who are struggling with stress, anxiety, low self-esteem, grief and loss as well as dealing with the impact of surviving child sexual abuse.  She is client-focused and works collaboratively with clients using an integrative approach. Her warm empathic style provides a supportive environment so that clients can explore and uncover blocks that may be affecting their overall happiness and help them find better ways to deal with their problems.  Lisa traine

Donna holds professional qualifications in psychoanalysis and provides psychoanalytic psychotherapy to adults, children and adolescents. She received training in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy from Espace Analytique, Paris and also holds a certificate in Art Therapy. She has further qualifications in Irish Theatre, Irish Literature, Nursing and Montessori Teaching. Her areas of expertise include working with diagnoses of depression including post natal depression, anxiety disorders in children and adults, self harm and eating disorders in adolescents and young adults. 

I offer one to one counselling sessions. I work from a CBT, Person centered and Solution focused model. My specialist area is Eating Disorders working with both adults and adolescents.
