Total Knee Replacement operation is suitable for patients with severe knee arthrosis (gonarthrosis) who cannot walk or maintain their daily activities due to pain and joint malalignment. Damaged joint surfaces (cartilages) are changed with artificial joint surfaces. A replaced knee can last as long as 20 years or even more.If the pain of the patient is intolerable and joint malalignment of the knee  prevents the patient to do his/her daily activities like walking, sitting, standing and ect., and all of the other treatment options are tried and non of them helps the patient to have a normal daily routine, knee replacement operation should be performed.The operation takes about 60-90 minutes. Most of the patients can bear weight in hours after the operation. Mean hospital stay is about 3 days.I prefer worldly well known implant brands in knee replacement surgery. I believe this helps to avoid many possible complications that can occur due to implant quality. Suture brand is another important issue. I pay attention using the best quality and worldly well known brands in sutures.Patients start early physiotherapy after the operation. After their control in post operative 20th day, patients are free to return to their daily routines.In 3-6 months, all of the patients can use their operated knees as if their original knees. During this period, me and my staff keep in touch with the patients.

In Hip Replacement Operation hip joint surfaces are partially or totally replaced with an artificial joint.Type and material of the implant changes according to the patient’s age. In younger patients ceramic implant surfaces are preferred where in elder patients polietilene, a special type of plastic, implant surfaces are preferred.Patients with hip fracture can also need to have a hip replacement surgery. In this situation, we can either prefer to make a partial or total hip replacement surgery.The operation takes about 2 hours. Mean time to stay at hospital is about 3 days. This period is especially important for wound care and early physiotherapy. Patients can bare weight in hours after the operation.Patients need to use raised sit toilets at least 1 month after the operation and avoid excess forces to the operated hip. After their control in post operative 20th day, patients are free to return to their daily routines.A hip replacement, made with a good quality implant and an ideal technique can help patients use their joints pain free last as long as 20 years or even more. I prefer worldly well known implant brands, which have at least 10 year follow-ups. The important point is to help the patients keep moving and doing their activities in a comfortable way.

To date my experience with Orthopaedic Gelenk-Klinik has been very good. I am living in Serbia where I have been unable to get trustworthy treatment options for my hallux valgus. I then reached out to the Gelenk-Klinik asking if it could provide me with a medical opinion online. Very quickly, I got a positive response from Eri Sugiyama with whom I exchanged a few emails, never waiting for more than an overnight for a response. She asked for x-rays which I forwarded along with other information. The next working day, Eri Sugiyama shared with me Dr. Schneider's opinion. I am extremely grateful for the time Gelenk-Klinik has taken to consider my case and provide me a medical opinion -which it did free of charge, this meant a lot to me as I do not have medical coverage other than for the Serbian public healthcare system -but more significantly this is not only a graceful gesture, it also gives the impression that the staff may actually care about helping a person in need, rather than take every opportunity to grasp money from a patient. It has been an uplifting experience. I hope to communicate further with the Gelenk-Klinik. I remain grateful for the assistance I have been recently provided.
