Dental Implants Dental implants are replacement tooth roots. Implants are titanium cylinders with a surface with a screw, which is placed in the jawbone. The implant is made of commercially pure titanium, a metal that integrates with the patients bone and is fixed to it strongly. Now we have several types of implants for each different situation, allowing us to treat more and more people and fit the final prosthesis in less time, in most cases in one hour or one day. Most implants are sometimes placed under local anesthesia, without general anesthesia. Depending on the patient, this procedure can be carried out under a conscious sedation. A sterile field to prevent infection is prepared before the surgery. More frequently we fit the implants without any incision to the gum and no stitches. Then an incision of less than 4 mm in diameter is made and the dental implant is placed inside the bone. Finally a screw is fixed to the implant or provisional prosthesis.
