It acts mainly by stimulating various trigger points probably nerve fibres to release the bodys own opiods. Often referred to as knots within the muscles. Trigger points can be relieved by steady gentle but firm pressure, followed by quick release. Often perceived as feeling bruise like or hard nodules when touched.

This technique is used in conditions which affect the soft tissues surrounding joints, predominantly muscles. This is a form of western acupuncture.

During the initial assessment a thorough biomechanical assessment is undertaken including orthopaedic and neurological tests to establish function and degree of injury.  Often some of these tests are repeated at each visit.
