This test is used to investigate sensitivity to things that come into contact with the skin. This sensitivity usually appears as a sudden onset of itchiness on the skin, sometimes with swelling around the mouth and wheeziness. The test consists of putting a number of substances on the arm in various strengths and introducing them into the skin with a very fine needle. After approximately 10 minutes, each area tested is assessed to see whether a red patch has developed.

The echo looks at the structure of your heart and the heart valves, and also gives information on the function and pumping action of your heart . It can be a useful test if you have recently had a heart attack or if you have heart failure. It is also used routinely to assess people with heart valve problems or congenital heart disease. An echo is especially useful for diagnosing heart disease as it is painless and easy to do.
