What is a Panoramic X-Ray?

A panoramic X-ray is an X–ray machine that takes a two dimensional image of the entire mouth. It is quicker to take than a traditional dental X-ray and the image is clearer. A dentist can diagnose a range of problems by viewing one image.

How is a Panoramic X-Ray performed?

Patients will be asked to stand or sit against the machine and bites a plastic blade. The machine moves around the skull of the patient to take a comprehensive image of the jaws of the patient.

Is taking a Panoramic X-Ray image painful?

Patients will not experience any pain or discomfort when a panoramic X-ray image is taken.

What does a Panoramic X-Ray show?

Panoramic X-rays show cavities, infections, tumours including bone tumours, cysts, wisdom teeth, jaw lesions, gum lesions, tooth misalignment and fractures.

Are Panoramic X-Rays safe?

Panoramic X-rays are safe and use a very small amount of radiation. The patient is subjected to 40 percent less radiation than a traditional dental X-ray. It helps dentists diagnose problems in a single image. There is no need to take repeated X-rays. This makes it a safe imaging instrument.  It is also easy to disinfect a panoramic X-ray machine after each imaging procedure. Panoramic X-ray images should not be taken of pregnant women.

Would definitely recommend for orthodontics treatment. I did a lot of research on both Invisalign vs Sparks and also which doctor I wanted to work with. The team was great Cristiana accommodated me very quickly, I really trust Dr Lydia, very smooth and straightforward process, and also very reasonably priced compared to others I had researched.

Dental X-rays are a necessary procedure for many dental treatments. They may become necessary if you plan on getting endodontics, meaning root canal treatments and any other treatments dealing with the inside of the teeth, dental implants, tooth extractions, and most oral surgery procedures. There are three different kinds of X-rays to choose from. - Single tooth X-raysSometimes only one tooth is affected by the dental treatment that will be performed, an X-ray of a single tooth, or 2-3 teeth maximum is enough. This has the lowest dose of gamma radiation and is the easiest to make. Used frequently during root canals and easier tooth extractions. - BitewingsBitewing X-rays check the molars of a given side of your face and are a little bit bigger and more complex than single-tooth X-rays. These X-rays give an idea about what is going on in the back of the mouth, and how the teeth align and how the molars are doing. These are frequently used in orthodontics but can be used for tooth extractions and root canals. - Opg X-rayPanoramic dental X-rays (abbreviated as OPGs, which indeed is an abbreviated form of the word Orthopantomagram) allow the dentist to view all of your teeth, their relation to one another, and how they are positioned in your jawbone. They can give the dentist a very precise idea of how your teeth are aligned with one another.

A dental X-ray is a necessary procedure for many dental treatments. They may become essential if you plan on getting endodontics, meaning root canal treatments and any other treatments dealing with the inside of the teeth, dental implants, tooth extractions (especially wisdom teeth removal) and most oral surgery procedures. Because things change in your mouth very quickly, dental X-rays older than three months cannot be used for dental treatment. There are basically three different kinds of X-rays to choose from.- Single tooth X-rays - Bitewings - OPG X-ray While all X-rays are carcinogenic, they are no more harmful to your health than a walk through any European city that follows car traffic. The idea that X-rays are harmful has been hyped out of proportion on the internet, and many people are afraid of getting dental X-rays. They are necessary, and having an active bacterial infection in your mouth is a thousand times worse than a short blast of gamma radiation every few years.
