The gels have 6% concentration of hydrogen peroxide and 3ml gel (per tube). Patients can order the bleaching tray immediately after the laser whitening. It takes around 15 minutes to make a customized bleaching tray for patients from our In-House lab. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) breaks down to water (H2O) and a free oxygen radical (O) The smaller, less pigmented constituents by rapid oxidation. These compounds have double bonds and long carbon chains that are subsequently reduced to smaller carbon chains and hydroxyl groups, which eliminate discoloration. The initiation of bleaching occurs through the application of laser which emits monochromatic light at a specific wavelength absorbed by the catalyst molecules only, thus accelerating the release of activated bleaching molecules. Hydrogen peroxide, the most accepted active ingredient for in-office bleaching, does not decompose readily, which is partly why current bleaching procedures require lengthy visits. The“Truly” Laser tooth whitening has developed a Laser Gel that, when combined with hydrogen peroxide, becomes a solution responsive to specific laser wavelengths resulting in a rapid production of free oxygen radicals.

The Home-bleaching process – uses the same bleaching agent as the in-office type, but with lower bleaching gel concentration (10-15%). Currently, there are several types of home-bleaching products for the patients to choose from according to preference. The home-bleaching treatment takes about 5-7 days. The 3 methods of home-bleaching treatment are: A reusable dental tray, containing bleaching / whitening gel, is inserted over the teeth for 2-3 days, consecutively, for 1-3 hours a day, or as recommended by the dentist. The benefit of this treatment is that the dental tray fits each particular patient, while the drawback is that the dental tray must be washed thoroughly to ensure cleanliness prior to each repeated use of the dental tray, A disposable dental tray is similar to the reusable kind, but is used only once, and is packed as a pair (upper & lower tray) complete with bleaching / whitening gel in water melon, or mint flavors. A lipstick, with small brush (containing bleaching / whitening agent), is another alternative offering convenience of use and portability at any preferred time.

The Bleaching process conducted by the dentist (in-office bleaching) involves the use of hydrogen peroxide, or carbamide peroxide (15-50% concentration), blue light / cool light, or laser treatment to stimulatethe effectiveness of the bleaching gel. The sensitive gum tissue is protected from possible allergic reaction to the bleaching gel. The bleaching treatment normally takes about 1-3 hours before the discolored teeth become white. However, the whiteness of the teeth obtained from bleaching may vary from one patient to another because their teeth often respond differently to the bleaching solution. The common temporary side-effect after the bleaching treatment is excessive teeth sensitivity.
