What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a tooth shaped covering used as a cap over damaged teeth. The purpose of placing a crown is to improve the appearance and strength of the damaged tooth. Crowns are also placed over surgically inserted dental implants.

What are the different types of Dental Crowns?

The types of dental crowns include ceramic crowns, zirconia crowns, porcelain covered corrosion resistant metal crowns or porcelain fused to metal crowns, corrosion resistant metal crowns and gold crowns.

What is the best type of crown?

The best type of crown depends on the need of each individual patient and the position of the tooth. For instance, some people would find a gold crown placed on a front tooth unsightly. Ceramic, tooth coloured crowns placed on the front teeth maintain the natural appearence of the smile.

How long will a Dental Crown last?

Crowns are expected to last for about 5 years. Some crowns could last for up to 30 years. The life of a crown depends on the dental hygiene practiced by the patient and general wear and tear caused by biting, chewing or grinding. Crowns may crack if the patient has an accident.

Is it painful to get a Dental Crown?

Dentists inject local anaesthetic to numb the tooth and gum before placing the crown. The patient will not feel any pain while the crown is being placed. After the anaesthetic wears off the patient may feel mild pain or sensitivity for a few hours.

The staff were extremely attentive and they had a couple of massage girls to soothe youCam, Australia, 29 11 17

I checked a lot of online reviews before I chose to go to Dr. Sunil's practice. I had chipped a 4 tooth crown that I had gotten done in Manila about 5 years ago. I had also had an extraction and the tooth that was next to that one had been broken off by an accident, the roots were still in there on that tooth, so I ended up having root canal work on the broken tooth so it would be strong enough to use for a bridge to fill the gap. The four tooth crown from Manila was removed and the tooth was rotten beneath it from the previous dentist doing a poor job, so that had to be removed and another bridge to go from a crowned tooth next to it. All the new crowns were individual teeth this time and I'm very happy so far with how they look and chew. I ended up getting 6 crowns, 1 extraction, 2 bridges, root canal work and a cleaning for about A$7000. If I had gotten a dentist here in Australia to do it, I was quoted A$3- 5000 dollars each crown, so I was looking at A$20-30000, and that's not including the bridges, so definitely worth it for me. I can't speak highly enough about my dentist, (Dr. Orawan) she was very professional and had a great demeanor as well. Whenever I had an appointment booked, a spotlessly clean private car would pick me up from my hotel and take me to the surgery, the staff were extremely attentive and they even have a couple of massage girls to soothe you if you are a bit tense about the dentist. If your appointment is near a meal time, they even feed you. When you are all done, the car comes and takes you back to your hotel. Super awesome!

They very professional, no hidden costs, no trying to upsell services and they do what you ask forGregory, Christchurch, 26 08 18

Great clinic. The staff is very easy to talk to, they all fluent in English. This was not my first choice of dentist. I had originally been booked into Bumrungrad Dental Hospital, however, after just the consultation with 2 specialist dentists and costing 3500 baht, it was my first and the last time there! I had 5 crowns, 1 root canal, 3 first stage implants, night guard and a partial denture. This is now my favourite clinic in Bangkok. Over the years, I have been to many and have found only this one to be excellent. Smile Signature is what dentists should act like. They very professional, no hidden costs, no trying to upsell services and they do what you ask for. The appointments are very close to the times that are booked and its location is in a perfect area for someone like me that can easily get lost in an airport or train station. I guess the only negative is and it seems to be all Thailand dentists, is that the basic X-ray is not in the same room as where the dental chair is. Unlike in my country where you can do everything while laying in the dental chair. I think I've possibly got some nerve damage from the massive local injections to numb my gums down for the implants. Hopefully, it will come right over the next few months.

Each person we interacted with were very polite and very informativeMichael, Thailand, 01 05 18

We will be moving to Chiang Mai next year from Texas. We both wanted to check out dentists and Dr's before our move. We are completely satisfied with Kitcha Dental service. From the front desk as we enter the spotless office and waiting room. The rooms for dental work were exactly the same as we have had to live in different states in the U.S. Each person we interacted with were very polite, very informative and everything was explained before the procedure was performed. They also explained as senior some of the future dental procedures we may want to consider. We would recommend them to anyone who asks. Also, they are our dentists when we make our move. Much Appreciation.

Highly recommend.Td, Cyprus, 05 01 17

Excellent plus, maybe plus, plus.... I was a hospital anesthesiologist(doctor) for around 25 years, so I think I am a good judge of quality operators(my work as an anesthesiologist included dental chair anesthesiology, in a hospital setting.) I want for root canal treatment, and assessment for crowns/other restorations, and possible implants. I would highly recommend this clinic for others requiring similar orthodontic procedures Tdmc.

Dental Crowns
Crown requires at least 2 visits. First visit is for the tooth preparation and second visit is for the cementation. There is about 3-5 days between first and second visit for laboratory processing. However, in case that you require a lot of works, we may require additional visit for preparation and cementation. One tooth takes about 1 hour for preparation and 30 minutes for crown cementation. In case of several teeth involved, we will perform the treatment only 3-5 hours maximum depending on each patient. Therefore, we have to set up more than 2 visits for multiple crowns case.
