What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a tooth shaped covering used as a cap over damaged teeth. The purpose of placing a crown is to improve the appearance and strength of the damaged tooth. Crowns are also placed over surgically inserted dental implants.

What are the different types of Dental Crowns?

The types of dental crowns include ceramic crowns, zirconia crowns, porcelain covered corrosion resistant metal crowns or porcelain fused to metal crowns, corrosion resistant metal crowns and gold crowns.

What is the best type of crown?

The best type of crown depends on the need of each individual patient and the position of the tooth. For instance, some people would find a gold crown placed on a front tooth unsightly. Ceramic, tooth coloured crowns placed on the front teeth maintain the natural appearence of the smile.

How long will a Dental Crown last?

Crowns are expected to last for about 5 years. Some crowns could last for up to 30 years. The life of a crown depends on the dental hygiene practiced by the patient and general wear and tear caused by biting, chewing or grinding. Crowns may crack if the patient has an accident.

Is it painful to get a Dental Crown?

Dentists inject local anaesthetic to numb the tooth and gum before placing the crown. The patient will not feel any pain while the crown is being placed. After the anaesthetic wears off the patient may feel mild pain or sensitivity for a few hours.

Kitcha was in a convenient location so I had my dental implants done there. It was worth the money and my follow-up visits went well. I paid a fair price. The healing process was fine too. Generally, it was all very good.

Very informative, so I could always be sure about the proceduresMei, Thailand, 26 09 19

I have a metal allergy but had many metals in my mouth (bridge or silver crown) before. I have been suffering eczema for about twenty years, and I came to think that it could be because of the metals in my mouth. I decided to take out those metals and started researching. I have visited a lot of dental clinics including in Japan (I'm Japanese) to find the right place for me, until I found this clinic the most trustful, with skills, latest technologies and caring support. With great and patient help by Dr Nalat and Dr Ice in this clinic, I could take out the bridges and silver crowns, and replace with zirconium implants and ceramics. Dr Nalat gave me all the information after research and gave me options so that I could know everything about the material and choose. Very informative, so I could always be sure about the procedures. I am very happy that I could have met a trustful doctor and will visit this clinic from Japan in future.

My teeth are as good as newJohn, Australia, 26 01 16

I was a little bit dubious at first regarding getting treatment from dental clinics from overseas, however I have read many reviews, and decided to give it a shot. I haven't been to a dentist for a check up in many years, and have developed tooth pain that i was ignoring for a while. I wasn't sure what was the matter, or if there were any cavities anywhere else, so I knew I needed xrays, and finish off with a clean. I was ASTOUNDED at the quality of service, professionalism, and overall experience that i received! It started way before the treatment. I made an inquiry to this clinic (and a bunch of others) weeks before leaving for our trip, and at 9pm Australian Eastern Standard Time, i received a reply within minutes!! After making the appointment and a few days later, our travel schedule had changed, and the last minute inquiry was yet again INSTANTLY responded to, in English, at around 8pm our local time! The appointment was re-scheduled, and everything was set. Upon arrival, I was amazed at how well the dentist spoke perfext english, and having had MANY dentist visits in australia, i was a bit nervous. What then followed i can't begin to describe as anything less than the utmost best experience i have ever had at any Australian dentist. Turned out an old filling was done poorly (in australia, surprise surprise), and had to be replaced. I NOT ONCE felt ANY discomfort, as i was preparing myself for the usual australian methods.. Normally a typical INSPECTION back home left my sensitive gums bleeding to death, not even mentioning the 'clean' torture that i remember enduring back home.. The dentist paused every 15mins or so, showed me what he has just done, and explained what he was about to do next. After the fillings were done the first day, i made sure i was available the next day (turned out to be the day after) to come back to check how the fillings sat (they were naturally a bit too high as i could not really tell with anaesthesia at first), so they got filed back, and i got my clean. Normally during my past cleans, i have to almost fight back tears, as my roots and gums are extremely sensitive, yet i barely felt a thing!!!! Xrays, 4 fillings, and a clean, and i spent less than $200 AUD for 2hrs of treatment on 2 separate days! That's the price of JUST A CLEAN back home!!! I was amazed!!! This entire procedure would normally have cost me what my entire 3 week holiday cost in thailand, including airfare! I am NEVER going to a single dentist in australia ever again, and i HIGHLY urge you to use EMPRESS dental. The "bunch of clinics" that i emailed prior to my trip, STILL hasn't replied to me, so their loss. It's now been 2 months since treatment, and my teeth are as good as new!!! Many friends and coworkers i have urged to do the same, are still skeptical about it, however i really do reccomend that you just take my word for it. Will definitely come back to get my crowns done! (Around $360AUD EACH!!) vs. $2000 - $3000 back home, for white crowns

Treatment was a total successPeter, UK, 30 12 15

I went to Tooth Town at Chalong for a check-up, clean and to investigate a sensitive rear tooth. The sensitive tooth turned out to need a crown. I was also advised that I should have root-canal treatment on the tooth which I was rather concerned about. Treatment was a total success. I am extremely impressed with the treatment I received at Tooth Town Chalong and have no hesitation in recommending this dental surgery to others. They deserve to do well in this competitive market. Why was I so impressed? Well, apart from the fact that I received painless treatment at a fair price I was completely surprised to discover that on the day I went for root canal treatment, after a lot of investigating, pressing and probing, the dentist told me that I didn't need to have it done. This of course saved me some discomfort and significantly, about 10,000THB! I had gone to the surgery knowing and expecting I was going to have this treatment so it was a very pleasant surprise indeed. This is a clear demonstration of the dentist behaving in an impeccably professional manner and this is not that way, that some nearby clinics might behave. Score is 10 out of 10! THANK YOU Tooth Town! This surgery has a number of dentists with slightly differing areas of speciality which I am entirely happy with.
