A root canal treatment means that the dentist removes the cause to the pain, for example caries, if possible. There after the pulp is removed the canals cleaned and filled with again. The most common filling material is "Gutta-percha", a material similar to rubber that is cemented inside the canal. Finally a fillings or crown is made to replace the lost part of the tooth. The treatment is executed with usual anaesthetic and should be pain free. If the pulp is dead normally no anaesthetic is needed.
