What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is performed for dental procedures for anxious patients by administering medications to help them relax. Many patients avoid getting the required dental help because of their fear of the dentist. Sedation dentistry is performed to ensure that nervous patients enjoy healthy mouths and teeth.

What are the types of dental sedation?

The different types of dental sedation are; inhalation sedation, for patients requiring mild sedation also called anxiolysis; oral sedation, by asking patients to swallow a pill; TENS, using electrical impulses to numb the area; topical anaesthesia, using a swab to numb the area; or intra-venous sedation, for patients requiring moderate sedation and general anaesthesia for patients requiring deep sedation. General anaesthesia is used for patients only in a hospital and not in a dentist chair.

Is Sedation Dentistry painful?

Oral sedation, inhalation sedation, TENS and topical sedation are not painful. Intra-venous sedation and general anaesthesia need to be injected and patients may feel pain when the sedative is injected.

When can I travel by air after Sedation Dentistry?

Patients should travel by air two days after sedation dentistry. They should take the advice of their dentist before embarking on their journey.

How long does recovery after Sedation Dentistry take?

Recovery from dental sedation takes between 40 to 90 minutes. Recovery depends on the type of sedation administered.

What after care is required after Sedation Dentistry?

Patients should rest for at least three hours after sedation dentistry. They should not eat for at least four hours, until the anaesthesia wears off. They should take all prescribed medications correctly. They should resume work at least one day after sedation dentistry. They should not smoke or drink alcohol for at least two days after sedation dentistry. They should follow all dietary prescriptions given by their dentist correctly.

Denstetica

(829) 954-8221 Torre Progreso Business Center, Suite 605., Av. Lope De Vega No. 13, Santo Domingo
Rating from 11 Reviews I would definitely recommend DensteticaMike, US, 23 Sep 16

I lost my #13 tooth 15 years ago due to lack of proper care and $. Last spring I got an implant while vacationing in Ecuador. After six months I was ready for the post and crown. At Denstetica Clinic in the DR, a close exam with X-rays showed I needed more work. In all I got, in addition to the post and crown on 13, root canals and crowns without posts on 18&19, an onlay over 14 (it had a previous root canal) and I whitened my teeth as a little extra for myself. All for less than what I was quoted in NY for just the 13 treatment. I had numerous responses to my inquiry on WhatClinic, all very courteous and professional. I opted for Denstetica because Tiffany, the receptionist, speaks English and answered all of my questions and concerns immediately or she would check and respond back shortly thereafter. She is actually a dentist herself so is very knowledgeable. The main dentist, Dr.Peña, also speaks English, another added plus for me. The office is upscale and modern utilizing cutting edge equipment and procedures. They offer safe complementary ground transportation along with lodging and dining suggestions. I would definitely recommend them. The prices may be a little more expensive than others locally but you get what you pay for. We all even went out the last night for drinks and to celebrate a job well done.

Hispadent - Jose Alonso MD, DDS, FACS

Rating from 27 Reviews Everything worked out great.Liam, US, 18 Nov 14

Eight porcelain veneers. Being a smoker for the past twenty years, I've been starting to see more and more staining in my teeth. While it hasn't affected all of my teeth, there are about a bit more than a handful that are a lot more stained than others. To address this issue, I've been contemplating whether to get some sort of veneer treatment for my teeth. After doing some research, I visited Dr. Alonso's dental office. I was glad to see that his office was very clean and kept up, and the staff was very welcoming. I sat down with Dr. Alonso and after inquiring about my many options, he recommended porcelain veneer for its aesthetic reasons. In order to make my teeth look more uniform when I smile, I needed about eight porcelain veneers to correct the issue. After much consultation, I decided that a healthy smile is simply worth the investment, especially since I work in a field which requires constant human interaction. I was able to make an appointment for the following week. On the day of the procedure, I arrived early, and Dr. Alonso and his staff had everything prepared and were ready to go. The whole process took a good handful of hours and after everything was done, the final results were beautiful. The color matched my other teeth very well, and the veneer looked and felt like my own teeth. I was also told that the porcelain will not stain like some other veneers, so after this procedure, I made a commitment to stop smoking. All in all, everything worked out great, and doing this has also given me a reason to kick the habit so I'm sure to save some money there.

A root canal treatment means that the dentist removes the cause to the pain, for example caries, if possible. There after the pulp is removed the canals cleaned and filled with again. The most common filling material is "Gutta-percha", a material similar to rubber that is cemented inside the canal. Finally a fillings or crown is made to replace the lost part of the tooth. The treatment is executed with usual anaesthetic and should be pain free. If the pulp is dead normally no anaesthetic is needed.
