What are Mini Implants?

Mini implants are small screws measuring 1.8 to 3mm that can be placed in one day for patients. They also act as a tooth root and can retain crowns and bridges. Placing a mini implant is a minimally invasive procedure. The patient’s existing denture is placed on the implants or a new denture is fabricated.  Mini implants do not need as much bone structure as regular implants. Mini implants are also cheaper than regular implants.

How is the Mini Implant procedure performed?

The dentist drills a hole in the bone of the patient's jaw. The mini implant is screwed into the bone.  The denture is then fitted with metal fasteners that fasten the denture to the ball shape of the head of the mini implant. Mini implants are placed using local anaesthesia or intra-venous sedation. Patients should not feel any pain during the procedure.

Can I travel by air after the placement of Mini Implants?

Patients can travel by air one day after mini implants are placed. They should ask the advice of their dentist before embarking on their journey.

What is the recovery time after the placement of Mini Implants?

Patients recover from a mini implant procedure within a day.

What care is required after the placement of Mini Implants?

Patients should use a soft brush and rinse their mouths gently after mini implants are inserted. They should not smoke or drink alcohol. They should take all prescribed medications correctly. Patients can apply ice packs to the swollen area to bring down the swelling. They should eat soft food or follow a liquid diet for at least a week. They should avoid eating hard food products. They should sleep with their head elevated until the swelling reduces.

What are the alternatives to the placement of Mini Implants?

Traditional dentures and partial dentures, also called fixed or removable bridges, are alternatives to mini implants.

Rating from 46 Reviews It was getting more difficult and uncomfortable to chew foodJames, Upper Black Eddy, 29 Mar 16

In my late 30s I had 3 dental implants of molars done to replace missing and cracked original teeth. Starting in my early 60s, I started to lose the implants and other teeth due to looseness caused by deteriorating bone density. My dental health otherwise was good. Early last year, 2015, when I was 69, I finally decided to do something about my progressive endentulation for two primary reasons. First, it was getting more difficult and uncomfortable to chew food. Second, missing teeth gaps were visible when I smiled or laughed, making me feel self-conscious and embarrassed. My US dentist analyzed my situation, took panoramic xrays, and drew up a detailed program for an extensive restoration that would result in a solid bite and improved appearance. His recommendations included sinus surgeries to increase the size of the sinus chambers; bone grafting to harden the molar ridges upper and lower; 3 extractions, 3 root canals, 8 implants, 8 crowns. If he had done the work in the US the cost would have been around $60,000, only a very small part of which was covered by my dental insurance. With his guidance, we found WhatClinic.com and sent out a detailed request for proposal and included photos, panoramic X-Rays, and my doctor's detailed and exhaustive prognosis and recommendations. Dr. Jepssy Beltre from Clinica Odontocare in Santo Domingo in the Dominican REPUBLIC was among the fastest to reply and asked lots of good questions and even called me to discuss my needs and wants in detail. He impressed me with his professionalism, knowledge, and his concerned, empathetic attitude. Even though his pricing proposal was not the lowest I received I picked him because of his proven expertise and positive, can-do attitude. Great experience! Dr. Beltre combines knowledge, experience, state-of-the-art technology and equipment, and compassion. He also regards his patient as his co-equal and solicited my opinions all along the way. Over the six months I was under his care I felt I'd gained a true friend, not just a highly competent dental professional. I plan to engage Dr. Beltre"s services again next year for another project involving capping and veneering.

Rating from 10 Reviews I'm so happy with the decision that I've made to go with this placeDoris, Houston, 25 May 16

While visiting the Dominican republic in Santa Domingo I decided to look into some pricing for dental work found a few places. I contacted them and then it happened. Dental Studio Spa came into my life. I was torn between them and another company I decided to go with Dental Studio Spa as they accept credit cards and the other company did not. It was determined that I needed 2 root canals, I had 4 cavities in 3 tooths, 2 crowns, dental implants etc. I'm so happy with the decision that I've made to go with this place. There is an awesome group of employees working at this magnificent beautiful clinic. I want to especially thank the following. Dr. Liudmilla Herrera, Dr. Yocasta Caba and Dr. Wadid Castillo and my translator Linda Aponte. You all made me feel loved and welcomed. Thank you all again for my amazing new smile. I look forward to seeing you all next month for phase two of my dental plan. Dr. Yocasta Caba you was with a patient when I took everyone's picture. You will definitely be the first person I do a selfie with when I return. Xoxoxo
