After trying numerous times to lose weight, decided to take the plunge with the surgery. Dr Ravi was recommended by a work colleague - and going with Dr Ravi is a decision I will not regret. He explained the procedure and the changes I would need to make to ensure success and he was clear, if I couldn't make the changes this may not be the way forward. Dr Ravi keeps it clear, tells you what you need to know and with his team makes sure that everything is in place to help you succeed. After researching bariatric surgery and making a decision to go ahead, I chose Dr Akif Aydın because I read previous comments about him. All the staff were always there for my questions and concerns. Thank you, everyone. I only had my gastric bypass surgery. Dr. Aydın was very helpful and put me at ease as soon as I met him. He made sure all my pre-op tests came back fine before going ahead. After my surgery, he came around to let me know it was all done and there were no concerns. He came to examine me daily until I left the hospital. He has a really friendly and calm manner which reassured me. I would definitely recommend him to anyone thinking about bariatric surgery. Thanks so much, Dr Akif aydın and his staff. The operation is performed under general anaesthetic and usually takes between 1-3 hours depending on your BMI and anatomy. The operation works dividing the top of your stomach to make a small pouch to which is attached part of your small intestine. This make your digestive system shorter and means you can only eat small meals. Your body will take up fewer calories from the food that you eat. After the operation, you will need to take a daily multivitamin tablet (can be bought over the counter), daily calcium and vitamin D tablet, daily iron tablet and 3-monthly Vitamin B12 injections via the GP.  The gastric bypass is a well-established weight loss operation with a proven long-term track record. The operation is performed using keyhole surgery and you should expect to stay in hospital for 1-3 days. Depending on the technique used, you will need to stay in hospital about two to three days.
