I attended Auralia for a mini gastric bypass on 30th January 2022. The hospital itself is a new state of the art building so was a little hard to find but once I got there the staff were beyond welcoming. The building was immaculately clean and fresh, staff were highly attentive and considerate of the level of fear patients feel having this type of surgery. As an NHS employee it was so refreshing to see genuinely happy staff, proud of their work and feeling heard and respected by their managers. I have so many names I could list but 2 members of staff in particular went above and beyond making me feel comfortable and safe. Michelle a Health Care Assistant and Gemma the Night Shift Nurse. As I say I could not fault a single member of the staff they clearly showed they have a great working relationship and were genuinely happy to be at work. Unfortunately this isn't something I see on a regular basis or lately at all in the NHS. I would highly recommend Auralia and Dr David Hewin along with his entire team. A few minor things they could consider would be ceiling grab rail over bed as it is difficult to move around especially when you have IVs attached, a TV or radio in the room as post op boredom set in a little. A coffee station for patients to use would also be good as I felt bad interrupting busy staff to ask for a drink and would not have minded making this myself as and when I wanted. They were very attentive and did provide tea, coffee etc which was so nice. For gastric patients a small selection of liquid soups would also be nice as I found that I wanted something salty despite not feeling hungry. I do appreciate Covid has had a massive impact on a lot of things that can be provided and this is in NO WAY a negative. Anyone who is considering this surgery I'd say go for it. Best decision I have ever made, yes I am a little sore and tired but I weirdly feel very energised as if my mind has just clicked into hyper drive and my body hasn't caught up yet... The owner of this hospital should be extremely proud of every single member of their staff they really do deserve the praise.

Had my gastric band fitted in August 2023, the whole experience went flawlessly from my consultation in Dublin to the surgery itself. The staff at the hospital were so nice and attentive, hospital is absolutely spotless and the surgeon and his team take the time to chat to you and explain everything. The gastric bypass or stomach bypass is one of the surgical techniques for treating morbid obesity. Alongside purely restrictive techniques, such as gastric banding, and largely malabsorptive techniques, such as Biliopancreatic Derivation by Scopinaro, this is a combined technique.
