What are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are thin, tooth coloured coverings also known as porcelain laminates used to cover the front of the tooth. They are placed to improve the appearance of smiles by changing the colour, length or size of teeth. The porcelain used to make the veneers is of a high quality and is generally long lasting.

What is the difference between Porcelain Veneers and Dental Crowns?

Porcelain veneers are only used to cosmetically correct the appearance of smiles. They only cover the front portion of the tooth. Dental crowns cover the entire tooth and are used to cover damaged teeth. Crowns are also placed over surgically inserted dental implants. Crowns are thicker than veneers. The patient’s tooth structure does not need much reduction for the placement of a porcelain veneer. A major portion of the tooth structure has to be reduced before the placement of a crown.

How long do Porcelain Veneers last?

Porcelain veneers last between 10 and 20 years. Patients need to follow the dental maintenance care instructions strictly to ensure that their porcelain veneers don’t wear out or chip. Porcelain veneers are the strongest and costliest type of veneer.

Is it painful getting Porcelain Veneers?

The dentist will administer a local anaesthetic before placing porcelain veneers. This is because the teeth of some patients are more sensitive than others. Since very little tooth structure is reduced for placing veneers, patients will not feel pain after veneers are placed. Some patients may feel a little soreness or sensitivity for a few days after the anaesthesia wears off.

I was so relieved and felt totally relaxedMarsha, UK, 25 06 22

My first trip to the dentist in 18 years and I was really nervous. I Booked in with Dr Shervin, for an emergency appt, which was easy to get. Dr Shervin put me at ease, explained my options and made sure I was comfortable. He extracted a tooth efficiently and effectively. I was so relieved and felt totally relaxed. My follow up appt was a proper check up, where he cleaned my teeth himself and advised no further issues. Would highly recommend.

I was very impressed with the safety procedures regarding Covid-19 and felt safeCatriona, UK, 10 02 21

Attended regular check-up with Hygienist Julia and Phillip Sommereux. Both very professional and caring throughout, always explaining what was happening. Phillip explained there are a couple of teeth he is keeping an eye on and why, but left the choice regarding a front tooth up to me. I was very impressed with the safety procedures regarding Covid-19 and felt safe. I chose to change to this practice because they have been in Eastleigh a long time and I have heard no poor reports. The previous practice I attended changed hands and was poorly run. Being a nervous patient I didn't cope with that well. All considerations are given to nervous patients at Phillip Sommereux's practice and quite quickly I knew I could settle with them.

I cold not fault itSally, Seoul, 18 03 17

I went here from my practice in London. The initial review I had was through and professional and I got an appointment quickly. I subsequently had some fillings, which I knew I needed. This was quick and painless and I was kept informed of everything as they went along. I cold not fault it. Chose this clinic after much e=research and was not disappointed. The clinic is small and had a great feel. The staff are friendly and excellent and so much better than the one in London. I would recommend everyone I know!
