"Superb communication and great after care"
1.5 50Reviewed 08 Sep 2017 We were unable to verify the reviewer.
Treatment Received: Wisdom Tooth Extraction
I had my 1st wisdom tooth (top right) removed while on a holiday 2 weeks prior to visiting Crescent Dental. The procedure back then went super smooth – 2 mins for tooth removal, 3 mins for sutures and I was out of the dentist office in 20 min tops. The socket healed without any complications in 2 weeks. No antibiotic required.

I went to Crescent Dental to remove the 2nd wisdom tooth (top left) and here is where things went downhill quick...!

Now for my experience with Crescent Dental (CD)…

Let me start with good things:
- Superb communication by phone and email/Facebook etc. Managing staff is very responsive and professional.
- Great aftercare. CD employees call and make sure you are ok at a later date. If there are any complications they insist on a free follow-up visit.

Now for the bad things:
- Removal of the wisdom tooth took a lot of time (seemed like forever to me) ~15-20mins. The dentist had to stop 3 times and approach pulling the tooth over and over again. I was told the tooth was stubborn.
- Even though the extraction was anything but easy/routine I was told there is no need for sutures, only a dressing, and antibiotic.
- Next two days after the extraction were a torture! I got a dry socket, most likely from the fact that the extraction was tough and there was a lot of tissue damage in the socket. I asked about sutures twice but was assured by the dentist that they are not necessary. Sutures would have minimized my chances for a dry socket significantly. Trusting the dentist was a huge mistake on my side.
- I showed up for a follow-up visit a few days later (requesting a different dentist!) and the dry socket was confirmed. On the follow-up visit, the dentist also had to remove 2 pieces of bone fragment left in the wound…?! I received a dressing with Alvogyl, which helped the healing process significantly.

In general, my experience with Crescent Dental was very, very unpleasant.

I can see that most reviewers have a good opinion about CD. I can’t exclude that my example was a ‘once off’ slip but it doesn’t change the fact that my tooth extraction was botched.

Treatment was absolutely superb. Very kind & friendly staff! Was very nervous going for first visit but felt fine when going back for a second treatment. Can't thank everyone enough. Would recommend to anyone. Treatments are totally pain free & very relaxed & calm atmosphere.

I cannot speak highly enough of the staff at this clinic. I was really nervous on my first visit. The receptionist even sat with me in the waiting room to help calm my nerves. Dr. Miriam Quilty is beyond fantastic & was so friendly, she put me very much at ease. I would recommend to anyone, particularly nervous patients. Can't thank them enough.

Attended Sinead Brennan at Crescent Dental for restorative work. Sinead was magnificent, I am so pleased with the outcome. From the very first consultation Sinead listened to what I wanted to achieve and delivered exactly what I wanted.

I could not recommend Sinead highly enough. Committed and dedicated to her profession who talked me through the entire process step by step and advised what would be done at the next appointment. Well done.

"I have doubts"
1.2 50Reviewed 28 Aug 2014 Review verified by email.
Treatment Received: Teeth Cleaning
I went for teeth cleaning and I must say that treatment took no more than 5 minutes, so I have doubts in relation to accuracy. Moreover dentist didn't wear uniform as suppose to and what was worse. I hadn't been covered with anything so water and other stuff was going straight on my clothes. I have paid 50 euro.
Total Amount Paid €50

Dental Checkup

Regular check ups and professional cleaning are essential to protect the health of your teeth and gums. At each consultation your teeth, gums and mouth will be carefully examined to ensure you are in good oral health. After the examination we will discuss with you any requirements you may have and offer advice on how to protect your teeth. Depending on the condition of your teeth and your previous dental treatments your dentist will usually recommend a dental check up at least once a year.

You may be entitled to one free check up annually under the government PRSI scheme. Please contact us and we will be happy to check this for you.

Dental Crowns

*At Crescent Dental our preference is to recommend either all porcelain crowns or porcelain bonded to white gold crowns, both of which are of the highest quality and longest lasting.

On occasion a tooth may have significant damage which can not be repaired using a filling. As we recommended retaining the natural tooth where possible a patient can consider the option of crowning a tooth. This involves placing a crown over the damaged tooth. There are many different types of crowns and at Crescent Dental our preference is to recommended either all porcelain crowns or porcelain bonded to white gold crowns, both of which are of the highest quality and longest lasting. All crowns look like natural teeth once complete and are matched to your own dentition.

If a tooth has been previously root treated it is often necessary to increase the strength of the tooth by placing a fitting called a post and core in the tooth. These posts improve the strenght and durability of the restored tooth. It is our policy to use laboratory fabricated white gold posts for the best clinical results.

White fillings  -- With significant advances in dental materials many fillings are now completed with white composite restorations. Composite restorations can be used to repair worn or fractured front teeth by matching the tooth tissue colour to various white filling materials.

Amalgam (Silver) Fillings -- On occasion it is more clinically beneficial to restore teeth with amalgam (silver) fillings. Amalgam is a very durable filling material.

up to €500
Inlay or Onlay

Porcelain inlays and onlays can be used to restore teeth that require large fillings.  They provide excellent cosmetic results, along with increased strength and durability. The inlay and onlay are bonded onto the tooth in order to prevent further deterioration requiring root canal treatment.

Mouth Guard

Custom fitted mouthguards which are individually moulded to your teeth. Our mouthguards will not just offer the best protection against dental and oral injury but they should not affect performance i.e. breathing and speech should be relatively unaffected particularly if these have been worn regularly. First, the dentist will make an impression of your teeth and a mouthguard is then molded over the model using a special material.

Root canals

*Prices include filling of root treated tooth.

Our aim is to assist patients in retaining the natural dentition whenever possible and a very useful treatment for retaining badly brokendown or symptommatic teeth is root canal treatment.

Root canal treatment is a procedure to remove the pulp (nerve) when it is either inflammed, dead or infected. The pulp extends along small canals inside the tooth. The pulp of a tooth can become damaged due to dental decay, trauma, fractures or leaking crowns and fillings. Where the damaged or dead pulp is not removed, it will often become infected and may result in a dental abscess. Root canal treatment is a pain free procedure and while there may be occasional post operative symptoms from this treatment the vast majority of cases resolve without post operative pain.

Following root treatment it might be necessary to crown a tooth but this would be discussed before any treatment would commence.

Sedation for dental treatments

Many patients are apprehensive about visiting the dentist; in fact it is very often the reason why they may not have been in a very long time. If the sight of needles, and the smells, sounds and tastes associated with many dental procedures make you very nervous, then sedation dentistry might be of benefit to you..

At Crescent Dental Clinic we offer both intravenous and inhalation sedation.  Intravenous sedation used to create a carefully controlled, dream like state of deep relaxation for the entire duration of your dental procedure. Inhalation sedation can be used for both adult and pediatric patients to provide anxiety relief for the duration of treatment without deep sedation.

Dr Robert Wallace holds a postgraduate Diploma in Conscious Sedation for the University of Newcastle , with experience of over 10 years in this field.

Teeth Whitening

*We aim to ensure your whitening treatment leaves you with the result you are looking for, irrespective of how many repeat visits you need to get there.

Tooth whitening is the easiest, most popular and most cost effective way of improving the appearance of your smile. This effect is achieved by lightening the natural colour of teeth without removing any of the surface. Our whitening treatments are clinically approved (Zoom2) and can provide outstanding results.

up to €600

Veneers are used to make teeth look natural and straight by improving their colour, shape and position. They are particularly effective when teeth are discoloured, broken, chipped or crooked. Each veneer is individually made for you to fit perfectly over the surface of your existing teeth. They perfectly match the colour, appearance and translucence of your natural teeth, restoring, and often enhancing your appearance.
