These are permanent as the brackets that hold the wire are glued to the front of the teeth. These brackets can be made from different materials. In some cases, brackets may be put on the back of the teeth (lingual appliances). In the case of the permanent braces, posterior rings are placed on the last four teeth and brackets are placed on each tooth. These brackets hold a wire. The wire will apply force to the teeth. Advantages: Constant and controlled but gentle force is applied to the teeth; continuous treatment. Disadvantages: As it is glued to the teeth, only an orthodontist can remove it, so it is much harder to keep the appliance or teeth clean; more expensive than the removable braces.
