What is a Dental X-Ray?

Dental X-rays are procedures where photographs of the teeth and mouth are taken to diagnose dental and oral disease or adverse dental conditions. An extensive examination of the patient’s mouth and teeth is done on the first visit to a dentist. This usually involves the use of X-rays. X-rays help dentists detect dental and oral problems that are not easily visible to the naked eye.

How is a Dental X-Ray performed?

Dental X-rays are either intra-oral or extra-oral. The film is placed outside the mouth and the image is taken for an extra-oral X-ray. The film is placed inside the mouth and the image is taken for an intra-oral X-ray. Depending on the machine used, patients may feel pressure on their cheek for a few moments when the dentist focuses the camera.

What does a Dental X-Ray show?

X-rays allow the dentist to see, bone loss, gum disease, dental infections, positioning of wisdom teeth, oral cysts or abscesses, tumours, jaw fractures and foreign objects in the mouth or teeth.

Are Dental X-Rays safe?

Dental X-rays are the safest among X-rays and patients are exposed to very little radiation. Dentists use digital X-rays that are less harmful than traditional X-rays. Patients should tell the dentist about any existing health condition or if they are pregnant.  The dentist will not use X-rays to risk the health of patients unless absolutely necessary.

What are the alternatives to taking a Dental X-Ray?

Alternatives to the dental X-ray include Cari vu, a diagnostic device using transillumination technology and the Diagnodent laser assisted diagnostic device.

I'm really happy with my experiencePeter, US, 18 07 19

I'm really happy with my experience with Kreativ Dental so far. I've completed my first of three visits so I'm reserving that final five-star rating till after my final appointment. The most striking thing, as an American, is how much better the care is overall. Second, I'm sure Kreativ makes money, but because the obscene US insurance system and the twisted incentives that it creates are absent, there is a much more authentic, caring, and direct approach that is taken to your treatment. Since the greed of said insurance companies is also absent, you are also going to save a bunch of money. I guess this observation could be made about all the offices in Hungary (I don't know) so let me also say that the knowledge and professionalism of the Kreativ crew shine through! I found very little of the defensiveness that is so common in U.S. dental and medical offices.

I found the whole process very straight forwardIvan, UK, 30 09 19

I had always paid for private dental treatment until a number of bridges and crowns began to fail. I had consultations with local clinics in Northern Ireland and was shocked at the cost of implants, bone augmentation, twilight anaesthesia. A treatment plan that would take 9 months to a year. I decided to look into going abroad, did my research and decided to go to Budapest on a short break to look at a few clinics. I planned my own travel and accommodation because I wanted to make a decision purely on who I thought was the best option for my dental treatment, not who paid for my hotel or picked me up from the airport. I won’t discuss the clinics I rejected but when I met Dr Haidekker I knew that he was the dentist for me. He has a no-nonsense approach and he told me what I needed and what was possible not what he thought I wanted to hear. I returned to Budapest a month later to start my treatment. I had a couple of extractions and four implants put in. I found the implants quite straight forward, a few injections and an hour later they were in with very little fuss. Three months later I was back for a full upper set of crowns and lower molar/premolar bridges on both sides. I found the whole process very straight forward when I decided to get my treatment with Dr Haidekker. We agreed the dates and price then Sylvia organised the accommodation and pick up from and back to the airport. Sylvia was always on hand to resolve any questions that I had. I am going to return to Activ Dental for some more treatment in a few months and spend some more time in Budapest sightseeing.

From start to completion I was impressed by the friendliness and efficiency of the treatmentPeter, UK, 10 08 19

I visited SODC last August after a recommendation from two friends. After a free consultation, Dr Andrea gave me a detailed plan of treatment I required together with a time period and a full breakdown of the cost. The treatment included crowns, implants and extraction. From start to completion I was impressed by the friendliness and efficiency of the treatment. All of which were carried out in a treatment room with the most modern equipment. I have now received a quotation for a full set of crowns for the lower teeth. Again the price is far less expensive than treatment in the UK even taking in cost of travel and hotel accommodation. I will be returning to complete the work soon.

carried out with first class careRonald, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, 25 02 16

I had 4 extractions, 6 implants fitted with a 12 piece crown bridge fixed to my top jaw; I also had a 12 piece crown bridge fitted to my bottom jaw over my existing teeth. All carried out with first class care. My ‘Implant journey’ began in November 2013 where I had an appointment/assessment with a U.K. dentist & the cost of having the work done at home just wasn’t an option. I then started to look elsewhere & stumbled across the ‘whatclinic’ website. After having carried out a fair amount of research on various clinics in Hungary I decided that I felt most comfortable with the ‘Hodent’ clinic in Heviz & as it turns out, it was the best decision I could have made. I had had an initial appointment with another Hungarian dental practice that had a clinic in London used for initial assessment prior to travelling to Hungary, where a panoramic x-ray of my teeth/jaws was taken. I also contacted 'Hodent' via the ‘whatclinic’ website & received an email from an English introducer to the Hodent practice within a very short time & from then on, any questions I had were answered promptly & without trying to blind me with science. The English contact proved invaluable in helping advise on flights, arrange accommodation, airport transfers & dental appointments (accommodation & transfers were included in the cost plan where the cost of the treatment was over a certain amount at that time) & to dispel any fears I may have had at any time throughout the whole process. I emailed the panoramic x-ray I'd had taken in London to the introducer who forwarded it on to Hodent, where I received a cost plan based on the x-ray the following afternoon & at around a third of the cost it would be in the U.K. My first appointment to the Hodent practice was in March 2014 where I was greeted by a smiling receptionist & in fact, all the staff were very welcoming. The doctors spoke perfect English & just as important, actually listened to my concerns & explained clearly the best option for treatment. I was quite nervous at first but was quite quickly put at ease. I had the initial preparation work done, the necessary extractions, Implants fitted & temporary bridges fixed over a period of around 4 or 5 days (can’t remember exactly). I then returned to the U.K for around 6 months to allow everything to heal. I returned to Hodent in October 2014 for the final treatment & was there for 7 days in total. My temporary bridges were removed, an impression was taken of the top jaw with implants & the bottom teeth were prepared ready for crowns also. My final crown /bridges were made in the onsite laboratory so no delay in making them. Bridges were fitted & I was able to ‘try them out’ for a day or so before going back for my final appointment & having any fine adjustments made until I was completely happy with the finished result. I have lived with my implants for around 18 months now & I’m just so pleased with them still. I think it’s safe to say, my teeth have ‘never’ looked so good & I will be eternally grateful to all the Doctors, Nurses, technicians & everyone involved with the Hodent Dental Practice in Heviz, Hungary. I’m not pretending it was a pleasant experience & after the anaesthetic wore off I did experience some pain & discomfort for a couple of hours on the first visit which is to be expected I suppose as after all, it is quite an invasive procedure, but it was to prove all worth it in the end. The doctors are clearly very skilled in their field & are very sympathetic during the treatment & I don’t hesitate to recommend the practice to anyone that asks me when they see my amazing new teeth. The total cost of the treatment was approx. £7,000 which was around a third of the cost in the U.K. at that time. A big THANKYOU! To you all.

My husband had an lmplant and 2 crowns and l had a root canal and crown done by Doctor Gorcsi Zsuzsanna. I wish I should have Known earlier about the Expertise of the Dentist and the Quality of their work . Honestly It was the first time that I did not experience fear. It was nice to be treated as a human being. We went to the clinic 3 times and it was allways nice to go. My brother inlaw heard me complain how painful it was for me going to the Dentist, He sugested to try Hungary. So I called around, and it was Diamant Dent that call me back, The gentelman gave me all the Information l needed it and organized everything, he made me feel at ease. The People working there are really nice and go out of the way to make you feel confortable. P.S. The town is super nice an clean and the Hungarian food is super good.
