What is a Dental X-Ray?

Dental X-rays are procedures where photographs of the teeth and mouth are taken to diagnose dental and oral disease or adverse dental conditions. An extensive examination of the patient’s mouth and teeth is done on the first visit to a dentist. This usually involves the use of X-rays. X-rays help dentists detect dental and oral problems that are not easily visible to the naked eye.

How is a Dental X-Ray performed?

Dental X-rays are either intra-oral or extra-oral. The film is placed outside the mouth and the image is taken for an extra-oral X-ray. The film is placed inside the mouth and the image is taken for an intra-oral X-ray. Depending on the machine used, patients may feel pressure on their cheek for a few moments when the dentist focuses the camera.

What does a Dental X-Ray show?

X-rays allow the dentist to see, bone loss, gum disease, dental infections, positioning of wisdom teeth, oral cysts or abscesses, tumours, jaw fractures and foreign objects in the mouth or teeth.

Are Dental X-Rays safe?

Dental X-rays are the safest among X-rays and patients are exposed to very little radiation. Dentists use digital X-rays that are less harmful than traditional X-rays. Patients should tell the dentist about any existing health condition or if they are pregnant.  The dentist will not use X-rays to risk the health of patients unless absolutely necessary.

What are the alternatives to taking a Dental X-Ray?

Alternatives to the dental X-ray include Cari vu, a diagnostic device using transillumination technology and the Diagnodent laser assisted diagnostic device.

Kreativ Dental Clinic

Vezér út 100, Budapest, 1141
Rating from 30 Reviews I was very satisfied with how the dental treatment went and felt no pain whatsoeverMary, Ireland, 20 12 16

I travelled to Kreativ Dental Clinic last month. It was my first visit so I received a free consultation and x - ray. While at the dental clinic I got a cleaning done. The x-ray showed that I needed a root canal on one of my teeth. I was very satisfied with how the dental treatment went and felt no pain whatsoever. I was very happy with the visit to Kreativ Dental Clinic. The people are so welcoming and the visit was so organised. A shuttle bus collects you from the hotel and brings you to the dental clinic. It goes over and back to the hotel and dental clinic every hour. Overall my trip was excellent and I would definetly recommend Kreativ Dental Clinic.

Activ Dental

Hercegprimas utca 14-16 1051, Budapest, 1051
Rating from 21 Reviews I have had no discomfort since the surgery and receive many compliments on my new smileRon, UK, 26 06 18

I had received a quote to have 12 teeth replaced in the UK; some replaced implants, crowns and bridges. I was unhappy as although the quote was for a massive £7,500, I would still have to wear a plate too. In Budapest, Peter gave me a smile to be proud of! I had painless treatment through several appointments over 3 days. Peter gave me 22 new teeth, for £4000 and the best part was, I no longer have to wear a plate. I have had no discomfort since the surgery and receive many compliments on my new smile. I chose this clinic following researching the internet. I spoke to Szylvia, who is multi-lingual and speaks English very well. She explained everything with clarity and I was happy to proceed with the treatment. Peter is conveniently based within a hospital in the centre of Budapest. My first opinion was that although there are 4 dentists there, everyone seemed to want to see Peter. That said, he kept to his appointment times and I am delighted with the result. If I were to need further treatment in the future, I would have no hesitation in contacting Szylvia and returning to Budapest to see Dr. Peter Haidekker.

Save on Dental Care - Budapest

Kassak Lajos street 19-25, Budapest, 1134
Rating from 28 Reviews The dental practice was excellent, clean, and managed by professional staffThomas, UK, 17 03 18

By the looks of their website, this clinic seemed like a good choice for veneers. The cost was reasonable as well, so I had the procedure done with them. It was definitely worth the price, I paid almost half of what I would’ve in the UK. There were no hidden costs at all and the staff went the extra mile to accommodate me. The dental practice was excellent, clean, and managed by professional staff. I had a great experience here. There was some point when I had an issue on a Friday night and they sent someone out to me within half an hour even though they’d already closed for business. Service like this is very hard to come by. My healing process was bearable: they’d warned me that sensitivity could last up to 2 weeks, but other than this, recovery was smooth. I’d highly recommend them to anyone.

Lotus Dental Heviz - Dr Akos Nyaradi

Lotus Dental Heviz

Attila Street 6, Heviz, 8380
Rating from 2 Reviews carried out with first class careRonald, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, 25 02 16

I had 4 extractions, 6 implants fitted with a 12 piece crown bridge fixed to my top jaw; I also had a 12 piece crown bridge fitted to my bottom jaw over my existing teeth. All carried out with first class care. My ‘Implant journey’ began in November 2013 where I had an appointment/assessment with a U.K. dentist & the cost of having the work done at home just wasn’t an option. I then started to look elsewhere & stumbled across the ‘whatclinic’ website. After having carried out a fair amount of research on various clinics in Hungary I decided that I felt most comfortable with the ‘Hodent’ clinic in Heviz & as it turns out, it was the best decision I could have made. I had had an initial appointment with another Hungarian dental practice that had a clinic in London used for initial assessment prior to travelling to Hungary, where a panoramic x-ray of my teeth/jaws was taken. I also contacted 'Hodent' via the ‘whatclinic’ website & received an email from an English introducer to the Hodent practice within a very short time & from then on, any questions I had were answered promptly & without trying to blind me with science. The English contact proved invaluable in helping advise on flights, arrange accommodation, airport transfers & dental appointments (accommodation & transfers were included in the cost plan where the cost of the treatment was over a certain amount at that time) & to dispel any fears I may have had at any time throughout the whole process. I emailed the panoramic x-ray I'd had taken in London to the introducer who forwarded it on to Hodent, where I received a cost plan based on the x-ray the following afternoon & at around a third of the cost it would be in the U.K. My first appointment to the Hodent practice was in March 2014 where I was greeted by a smiling receptionist & in fact, all the staff were very welcoming. The doctors spoke perfect English & just as important, actually listened to my concerns & explained clearly the best option for treatment. I was quite nervous at first but was quite quickly put at ease. I had the initial preparation work done, the necessary extractions, Implants fitted & temporary bridges fixed over a period of around 4 or 5 days (can’t remember exactly). I then returned to the U.K for around 6 months to allow everything to heal. I returned to Hodent in October 2014 for the final treatment & was there for 7 days in total. My temporary bridges were removed, an impression was taken of the top jaw with implants & the bottom teeth were prepared ready for crowns also. My final crown /bridges were made in the onsite laboratory so no delay in making them. Bridges were fitted & I was able to ‘try them out’ for a day or so before going back for my final appointment & having any fine adjustments made until I was completely happy with the finished result. I have lived with my implants for around 18 months now & I’m just so pleased with them still. I think it’s safe to say, my teeth have ‘never’ looked so good & I will be eternally grateful to all the Doctors, Nurses, technicians & everyone involved with the Hodent Dental Practice in Heviz, Hungary. I’m not pretending it was a pleasant experience & after the anaesthetic wore off I did experience some pain & discomfort for a couple of hours on the first visit which is to be expected I suppose as after all, it is quite an invasive procedure, but it was to prove all worth it in the end. The doctors are clearly very skilled in their field & are very sympathetic during the treatment & I don’t hesitate to recommend the practice to anyone that asks me when they see my amazing new teeth. The total cost of the treatment was approx. £7,000 which was around a third of the cost in the U.K. at that time. A big THANKYOU! To you all.
