What are fillings?

Fillings or dental fillings are used to repair the damaged surfaces of teeth. The surface of teeth may be damaged by small fractures, damaged enamel or decay. It takes 25 to 90 minutes to place a filling in a tooth.

What different types of fillingsare there?

Dental fillings are made of gold, silver, mercury or amalgam, porcelain or ceramic, plastic, composite resin materials or a glass and acrylic mixture called glass inomer.

Is getting a filling painful?

Preparing the tooth to place a filling by removing the decayed portion using a dental drill should not be painful. Some patients find the preparation procedure uncomfortable and painful. The dentist will administer a local anaesthic to ensure that the patient does not feel pain during the procedure.

How long does recovery after fillings are placed take?

Patients may experience pain or sensitivity for a few weeks after a filling is placed. The area where the anaesthetic was injected will feel sore for a few days. The gums of the patient will also feel sore for a few days.

How do I care for my teeth after fillings are placed?

Patients should not eat for at least three hours till the anaesthesia wears off. They should not eat or drink anything that is too hot or too cold for a few days. They should avoid very hard food. They should take all prescribed medications correctly. They should follow correct dental hygiene and brush and floss their teeth regularly.

What are the alternatives to placing fillings?

Alternatives to dental fillings are dental crowns, inlays or onlays, or tooth remineralization.

I am writing to let you know much much I appreciate the outstanding customer service that your staff provided for me and I would like to compliment one of your employees, in particular, Tom Emmerson. I first heard about Kreativ Dental online as I was looking to have dental implants. I travelled to Budapest and met Tom who was very polite and helpful! English is my second language, Tom was very patient with me and explained everything in detail to me. He explained the entire procedure to me and what needed to be done. He kept in touch with me throughout my stay in Budapest! Tom was extremely attentive and he listened to all my concerns with a great deal of patience. I was very impressed with his level of professionalism and his caring approach. Please accept my gratitude towards him and everyone at Kreativ Dental. Tom has shown great commitment to customer service and this is to be commended. You can be sure that after my experience over the past couple of weeks, I am proud to make Kreativ Dental my choice of dental clinic from now on.

I am very satisfied at the result of my treatment and my tooth is back in perfect working conditionGeorge, London, 09 02 18

I had a root canal treatment at the Evergreen Clinic in Budapest. I travelled to Budapest from the UK after an NHS dentist told me that she was unable to do anything for me and that I needed to see another dentist privately (at a high cost). The issue was that the nerves in my tooth were quite inflamed and did not respond well to the local anesthetic. I am still astonished by the incompetence of this particular NHS dentist since the dentist at the Evergreen Clinic simply applied medication to kill the nerves and was able to do the root canal treatment. I highly recommend Evergreen Dental for the fantastic treatment that I received. I would also highly recommend anyone to go there for treatment at this clinic. Before making the decision I researched the clinic expensively online found very positive comments. I would now like to add my own positive experience. I was very satisfied at the result of my treatment and my tooth is back in perfect working condition. The cost of treatment is cheaper than in the UK (even with flights and accommodation) and the treatment time will accommodate that fact that you have travelled and will only be there for a short period of time. I chose the Evergreen Clinic after doing extensive research online. I noticed that it was more recently opened and therefore thought that it would have modern facilities. I also saw that it received very high reviews online. I arrived in Budapest on a Wednesday morning and I was met at the airport by a driver hired by the clinic -- a complimentary service offered by the clinic to overseas patients. I was then driven to the clinic where I had my first appointment. When I arrived at the clinic I was greeted by a receptionist who made me feel very comfortable. I was then asked to complete and sign some forms about my medical history. I waited and was then asked by a very pleasant nurse (Viktória) to accompany her to the X-ray room where a panoramic x-ray of my mouth was taken. I was then invited to see a young dentist (Dr. Tamas) who proceeded to make a treatment plan based on the X-ray and my complaints. After the treatment plan was completed I was given the final cost of the treatment (before going to Budapest I received an email estimate based on the description of my problem). I agreed to the treatment plan and the dentist proceeded to start my treatment. Because of my inflamed nerves, any pressure on my tooth was very very painful. Having seen pain that I was in, the dentist decided to stop any further work for the day and to apply a special drug to kill the nerves in my tooth. I was then given another appointment for the following day. To cut a long story, I had four separate appointments in the space of five days in order to kill the nerves properly, clean the root canals and restore my tooth with fillings. At all times, both the dentist and nurse were very patient, accommodating and considerate, and did everything possible to help with my pain, fears, and curiosities. All my questions were answered and I left Budapest extremely satisfied with the result of my treatment.

They gave me the smile that I always wantedAdrianna, Honiton, 08 12 17

I had 6 front teeth Zirconia crown, polishing and a big filling done by Active Dental last week. I booked the appointment months ago via Szilvi, who was very helpful, answered all of my questions. I got airport transfer and a lovely apartment in the center of Budapest. Szilvi greeted us by the flat and waited for us the next morning to help to find the clinic. Dr. Haidekker was very kind and professional, made sure that caused the least pain as it's possible. The whole treatment took 3 days, incredibly fast! During our stay Szilvi helped with anything that we needed, lovely lady, speaks great English! I would recommend Activ Dental with all of my heart! They gave me the smile that I always wanted! I can put red lipstick on and feel confident! Can't say enough thank you for it!

This review wont allow 6 stars so limited to 5Athanassios, PORTSMOUTH, 18 09 16

I need almost a total rebuild of my dental state; gaps a result of several missing teeth, broken roots (from poor root canal work by UK dentists), declining health. Started a 20+ tooth reconstruction work, by firstly upper jaw implants to moler teeth. It involved x-rays and CT- scan appraisal pictures, in depth discussion and planning. I have been in 10+ other dentists chairs in the past and never felt that my health and smile were important to them. The uk is corrupt because each visit counts as a new treatment. They will not do bridge work under the NHS, which has a tariff maximum of £265. In the case of SODC Budapest, I was reassured from the first consultation what was planned was really needed. I went ahead and am currently recovering from the 2 main implants that will form the basis of crowns and bridges to that side. The procedure was performed by Dr Peter and his team. A really confident dentist, who explained what would be happening and what to expect afterwards in recovery time. His work was later seen on a controlling x-ray picture and true to his word were perfectly positioned and aligned; I have heard of UK dentists who are not experienced enough to do this and end up with crooked teeth. Thats the whole cue of this message; what these dentists and their teams do is what they are doing daily. Expertise and experience really counts. In the UK was quoted more than £50,000 for a complete rebuild, but as a favor was told he could do it for £28,000 if I agreed up front to the whole job. I politely declined and said he would have to get the money for his new Porsche from someone else. His Porsche was proudly parked outside. Here in SODC I was assured that only the teeth that needed to be pulled or implants made would be touched and essential work carried out. This is important because firstly the UK dentist would be contracting in a team for the procedure, and any idea of mine to save usable teeth was dismissed. A second UK dentist said he can provide bridges but not implants, and these would be at £480 per tooth - meaning for a 2 tooth gap they would charge 4 x £480 for a single bridge. Another dentist in Belgium quoted €12,000 for each 'over denture' - total €24,000. Now our health shouldnt really have a price tag on it but thats the rub, by being so expensive locally, dentists here put themselves beyond the possibility of doing this kind of reconstructive work regularly. That means the risk of 'mishaps' is greater. In the case of SODC, theyre doing it every day. They are equipped with state of the art x-ray machines (In the uK I was told an x-ray wasnt needed or possible onsite) My future dental work will be performed by Dr Monika in about 6 months after healing is complete of the implants. I was given anti-biotics as a safeguard against infection, pain killers for the day after. I was given a book of dental treatment details, even the makes and types of implants used. Total cost estimate = less that £6000 (+ flights and hotels); prices are post Brexit exchange rates. I researched this a lot over many years.and have many dentists to come up with a workable plan. I stayed on the Buda side of Budapest, so transport was a little more than staying on the Pest side, but at anytime the taxi ride was never more than £8 - it can be done by metro - £3 per day unlimited travel (free if you are 65+). This review wont allow 6 stars so limited to 5. Dr Peter, Dr Monika and teams deserve justly praise!

carried out with first class careRonald, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, 25 02 16

I had 4 extractions, 6 implants fitted with a 12 piece crown bridge fixed to my top jaw; I also had a 12 piece crown bridge fitted to my bottom jaw over my existing teeth. All carried out with first class care. My ‘Implant journey’ began in November 2013 where I had an appointment/assessment with a U.K. dentist & the cost of having the work done at home just wasn’t an option. I then started to look elsewhere & stumbled across the ‘whatclinic’ website. After having carried out a fair amount of research on various clinics in Hungary I decided that I felt most comfortable with the ‘Hodent’ clinic in Heviz & as it turns out, it was the best decision I could have made. I had had an initial appointment with another Hungarian dental practice that had a clinic in London used for initial assessment prior to travelling to Hungary, where a panoramic x-ray of my teeth/jaws was taken. I also contacted 'Hodent' via the ‘whatclinic’ website & received an email from an English introducer to the Hodent practice within a very short time & from then on, any questions I had were answered promptly & without trying to blind me with science. The English contact proved invaluable in helping advise on flights, arrange accommodation, airport transfers & dental appointments (accommodation & transfers were included in the cost plan where the cost of the treatment was over a certain amount at that time) & to dispel any fears I may have had at any time throughout the whole process. I emailed the panoramic x-ray I'd had taken in London to the introducer who forwarded it on to Hodent, where I received a cost plan based on the x-ray the following afternoon & at around a third of the cost it would be in the U.K. My first appointment to the Hodent practice was in March 2014 where I was greeted by a smiling receptionist & in fact, all the staff were very welcoming. The doctors spoke perfect English & just as important, actually listened to my concerns & explained clearly the best option for treatment. I was quite nervous at first but was quite quickly put at ease. I had the initial preparation work done, the necessary extractions, Implants fitted & temporary bridges fixed over a period of around 4 or 5 days (can’t remember exactly). I then returned to the U.K for around 6 months to allow everything to heal. I returned to Hodent in October 2014 for the final treatment & was there for 7 days in total. My temporary bridges were removed, an impression was taken of the top jaw with implants & the bottom teeth were prepared ready for crowns also. My final crown /bridges were made in the onsite laboratory so no delay in making them. Bridges were fitted & I was able to ‘try them out’ for a day or so before going back for my final appointment & having any fine adjustments made until I was completely happy with the finished result. I have lived with my implants for around 18 months now & I’m just so pleased with them still. I think it’s safe to say, my teeth have ‘never’ looked so good & I will be eternally grateful to all the Doctors, Nurses, technicians & everyone involved with the Hodent Dental Practice in Heviz, Hungary. I’m not pretending it was a pleasant experience & after the anaesthetic wore off I did experience some pain & discomfort for a couple of hours on the first visit which is to be expected I suppose as after all, it is quite an invasive procedure, but it was to prove all worth it in the end. The doctors are clearly very skilled in their field & are very sympathetic during the treatment & I don’t hesitate to recommend the practice to anyone that asks me when they see my amazing new teeth. The total cost of the treatment was approx. £7,000 which was around a third of the cost in the U.K. at that time. A big THANKYOU! To you all.
