This is one of the most important principles behind this beautiful bodywork as the practitioner always works on the body with love, nurturing and healing in mind. Hawaiians have always had a deep connection with nature, in particular with the ocean, and this connection is echoed in Lomi Lomi as the practitioner performs long, continuous, sweeping strokes over the body reminiscent of the ebb and flow of the ocean’s waves. These strokes, performed fluidly and rhythmically with both the hands and forearms, work gently and deeply into the muscles releasing tension, as well as on the blood and lymphatic systems making it a powerful, detoxifying massage. They are also designed to help the body let go of old memories, beliefs and behavioural patterns which, in Hawaiian culture, are believed to be stored in every cell of our bodies.
