As a result of IVF and ICSI treatments, there are often more embryos obtained than can be transferred into the uterus at a time.The rest of the embryos of good quality can be frozen and stored in liquid nitrogen (kryo-preservation) for a long period of time. The freezing of embryos enables subsequent attempts at pregnancy without a new hormonal stimulation.Before the transfer of the frozen embryos the endometrium of the uterus is increased by oral medication.The frozen embryos are thawed the day before the planned embryo transfer.
