What is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are artificial screws made of titanium or zirconium oxide that connect the jawbone and a dental restoration like a crown or denture. They are also called ‘endosseous’ implants or fixtures. They are an artificial tooth root. Once implanted, the implant integrates with the surrounding bone like part of the body. Dental surgeons perform bone grafting procedures to hold the implant in place for patients who do not have enough surrounding bone structure, or graft bone to help connect implants to the maxillary sinuses on either side of the nose when placing dental implants in the upper jaw.

How long does it take to fit a Dental Implant?

The time taken for inserting dental implants depends on the bone structure and needs of each individual patient. Some implant procedures take about 15 minutes while others may take up to two hours. Implant procedures are performed under local anaesthesia. Intravenous sedation is used for the comfort of anxious patients.

How long does it take to recover after getting a Dental Implant?

Recovery time after a dental implant procedure may take four to six weeks or up to 12 weeks for some patients. Patients can travel one day after the insertion of a single dental implant. Patients who require multiple dental implants or supporting surgical procedures should wait for around two weeks before travelling. They should meet the dental surgeon to get a certification of being fit to travel before embarking on their journey.

What should I do after getting a Dental Implant?

Patients should rest and avoid exertion after surgery. They should also avoid vigorously brushing their teeth or rinsing their mouth.

What are the alternatives to Dental Implants?

Alternatives to dental implants include fixed bridges and dentures.

I know this is expensive, however, I have trust in Dr Hartshorne ability and work. Happy with service so far.

Rating from 15 Reviews Overall service was great, will recommend it to anyone thinking of using or goingThumeka, South Africa, 23 01 17

I took my daughter for an assessment as she wants to put braces - my original appointment was for 11:00, I was not going to make it because my daughter had to start at school 1st, I asked if we can be seen at 13:00, I was accommodated. On the day of the appointment my daughter finished earlier than I'd anticipated, I called the dentist to reschedule for an earlier appointment, they agreed to see us at 11:30 am. To me that was impressive, the place is easy to find, security at the gate was also nice. We went in, got a warm welcome from the dentist's assistant, she gave us forms to fill in after that we waited for the doctor to finish with the other patient. Our turn came we went in, got a warm welcome from the doctor/dentist a tall handsome guy with a warm heart, my daughter was a bit nervous/scared but he assured her that it won't hurt. He did everything he wanted to do and allowed my 9yr old son to watch while he was doing my daughter's mouth x-rays. My son was so impressed and is now thinking of becoming a dentist. Overall service was great, will recommend it to anyone thinking of using or going to DCCC. I'm hoping that our next visit will be exciting as well. My daughter's got other sessions to go to before putting the braces. Thanks, TT

Rating from 1 Review All her reassurances let me know I’d made the right decisionJohn, South Africa, 29 08 18

I made an appointment for dentures at Long Beach. I’m about halfway through the process now and it’ll be another four months before everything’s complete. I’m not sure if I got a fair price for the dentures. I didn’t shop around before choosing this clinic. I went with them because it was conveniently located. There was considerable pain involved because we extracted 10 teeth at once. I was given pain medication and had follow-up visits afterwards. My dentist explained everything in detail. As we went along, she told me what she was doing and also why she was doing it. All her reassurances let me know I’d made the right decision. Overall, I was treated quite well. Everyone is so friendly. The clinic is also quite nice.
