What is a Dental X-Ray?

Dental X-rays are procedures where photographs of the teeth and mouth are taken to diagnose dental and oral disease or adverse dental conditions. An extensive examination of the patient’s mouth and teeth is done on the first visit to a dentist. This usually involves the use of X-rays. X-rays help dentists detect dental and oral problems that are not easily visible to the naked eye.

How is a Dental X-Ray performed?

Dental X-rays are either intra-oral or extra-oral. The film is placed outside the mouth and the image is taken for an extra-oral X-ray. The film is placed inside the mouth and the image is taken for an intra-oral X-ray. Depending on the machine used, patients may feel pressure on their cheek for a few moments when the dentist focuses the camera.

What does a Dental X-Ray show?

X-rays allow the dentist to see, bone loss, gum disease, dental infections, positioning of wisdom teeth, oral cysts or abscesses, tumours, jaw fractures and foreign objects in the mouth or teeth.

Are Dental X-Rays safe?

Dental X-rays are the safest among X-rays and patients are exposed to very little radiation. Dentists use digital X-rays that are less harmful than traditional X-rays. Patients should tell the dentist about any existing health condition or if they are pregnant.  The dentist will not use X-rays to risk the health of patients unless absolutely necessary.

What are the alternatives to taking a Dental X-Ray?

Alternatives to the dental X-ray include Cari vu, a diagnostic device using transillumination technology and the Diagnodent laser assisted diagnostic device.

I can thoroughly recommend.Bogdan, Australia, 14 02 17

I was misdiagnosed for expensive root canal treatment by another dental clinic and was lucky to ask for a second opinion from MC Dental - Doctor Madeleine Cheah correctly diagnosed a crack in the tooth, which required a filling only and which has served me well. She was courteous and professional and I can only speak the highest praises of her and her establishment. MC Dental is very reasonably priced and provides the most skilled practitioners - I can thoroughly recommend them to anyone

Pain free fillingsKendra, Australia, 26 09 15

I enquired about a consultation and they fit me in the next day. Over the next few days I had my treatment. Pain free and amazing. Treatment wasn't expensive either. Very good prices. I got 4 fillings and a clean and I cost me under 900$. The clinic is brand new, it was only 2 days old when I visited. Very clean and sterile. All staff were so friendly and helpful. Dr Thien was amazing. I highly recommend this clinic. They also provide free consultations which is great!

I felt comfortable with trusting him to carry out my treatmentCheryl, Wagga Wagga, 16 02 16

My tooth broke off and I needed an implant, my treatment started yesterday. My treatment is not yet complete, though I am very happy with outcome so far and would recommend this dentist to have your implant. I have researched prices and this surgery in comparison to others is good value. Convenience was important to me as there is nobody in the town where I live. I was having to travel to Canberra which is 3 hours away and needed to make three visits. Wodonga is only 1 1/2 hours from where I live which made this trip more convenient for me. I found this Dental Clinic on the internet and had read the reviews then made enquiries. My experience has been excellent and my treatment was well explained which gave me peace of mind. Easy to find with parking available. Clean and professional. I would recommend this dentist to anyone as the price although expensive much more affordable than those I compared. I was shown photos of work that this dentist had previously done and I felt comfortable with trusting him to carry out my treatment.
