The therapist was extremely knowledgeable and professionalBarbara, Ireland, 06 09 22

Really appreciate that I was contacted quickly after leaving a voicemail to fit me in for an appointment on that day which was badly needed. I had a deep tissue massage which was extremely helpful towards my painful back. The therapist was extremely knowledgeable and professional. I will definitely be going back very soon.

Anne-Louise Foley Counselling at The Healing House - Psychotherapy Clinic in Ireland

Anne-Louise Foley Counselling at The Healing House

The Healing House, 24 O'Connell Avenue, Berkeley Road, Dublin 7
I'm currently offering both face to face* and also online counselling. If you're feeling stuck in your life, or anxious, stressed, or depressed, counselling can help. I believe that you have the resources within yourself to find answers and resolve your difficulties, but may need a bit of help on this journey.  I work in an integrative way, meaning that I will use elements from different areas of psychotherapy in order to help you develop a stronger and healthier sense of yourself. It is helpful to gain some insight into the cause of the problem, and then work together with you on finding ways forward.  I hold a BA (hons) in Counselling & Psychotherapy from ICHAS (the Irish College of Humanities & Applied Sciences) and am an accredited member of the APCP and also a registered member of the BACP. I have experience and knowledge in trauma and have trained in EMDR and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, a body-focused treatment for trauma. I am neurodivergence informed. I am also a trained couples counsellor. *I see clients primarily at the Healing House in Phibsborough but am also based at Willow Tree Clontarf (on Friday mornings)

Couples Therapy
Relationship/Couples/Marriage Counselling DublinRelationship/Couples/Marriage Counselling DublinRelationship’s and families as we’ve known them seem to be falling apart at a rapid rate, inevitably this leads to feelings of hurt and anger. It often puts into question our ability to trust again and experience feelings of loneliness, rejection and loss. Relationships with our children can be tense and this can result in feelings of guilt, anger and sadness. In order to understand our own relationship difficulties we first need to take the courageous step of developing a more intimate relationship with ourselves. The first and most influential experience of personal relationships was when we were children. If our relationship with our parents were difficult, or we observed lack of communication, fighting and tension between our parents this may influence our relationships as adults. If we experienced rejection, hurt and losses as a child we may be unconsciously repeating these patterns as adults or avoid intimate relationships in order to protect from anticipated rejections. It may be that you are questioning why you are always choosing the wrong person and end up hurt and seem to be unable to stop repeating this pattern. Maybe you are a person who does the rejecting, however feels lonely and desires closeness. How counselling can help Counselling can help you to explore and develop a more intimate relationship with yourself. It can help unravel what is stopping you from getting close and in this process you can begin to develop new ways of being with others
OCD - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Treatment
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is the name given to a condition in which people experience repetitive and upsetting thoughts and/or behaviours. OCD has two main features: Obsessions and Compulsions. Obsessions: Obsessions can come in the form of involuntary thoughts, images or impulses. Common obsessions include, but are not limited to: fears about dirt, germs and contamination. Fear of acting out violent or aggressive thoughts or impulses. Unreasonable fears of harming others, especially loved ones. Abhorrent blasphemous or sexual thoughts. Inordinate concern with order, arrangement or symmetry. Inability to discard useless or worn out possessions. Fears that things are not safe, especially household appliances. The main features of obsessions are that they are automatic, frequent, upsetting or distressing, and difficult to control or get rid of. Compulsions: Just as with obsessions, there are many types of compulsions. It is common for people to carry out a compulsion in order to reduce the anxiety they feel from an obsession. Common compulsions include excessive washing and cleaning, checking, repetitive actions such as touching, counting, arranging and ordering. Hoarding, ritualistic behaviours that lessen the chances of provoking an obsession (e.g. putting all sharp objects out of sight). Acts which reduce obsessional fears (e.g. wearing only certain colours). Compulsions can be observable actions, for example washing, but they can also be mental rituals such as repeating words or phrases, counting, or saying a prayer. Again, not all types of compulsions are listed here. The main features of compulsions are they are repetitive and stereotyped actions that the person feels forced to perform. People can have compulsions without having obsessional thoughts but, very often, these two occur together. Carrying out a compulsion reduces the person’s anxiety and makes the urge to perform the compulsion again stronger each time

Anger Management Couple Counselling / Relationship Difficulties Sexuality Issues Coping with Depression Cancer / Illness Counselling What is the difference between Counselling, Psychotherapy and Therapy? Counselling tends to associate with more short term and focused work, and Psychotherapy explores issues in greater depth and requires more commitment to longer term work. It aims to reach the underlying, often unconscious, causes of distress. Therapy is a word that covers both Counselling and Psychotherapy. Think of your mind like a ball of wool — a tangled and really knotted ball of wool. These are your thoughts, your memories, your ways of coping with the world and includes your feelings.
