What are Skin Tags and how are they removed?

Skin tags are unsightly but harmless skin growths. They grow on a stem and are usually found on the eyelids and face, neck, armpits or under breasts. They are also called polyps or soft fibroma. Surgical and nonsurgical procedures are used to remove skin tags by cutting, tying, burning, using electrosurgery, or freezing, using liquid nitrogen called cryosurgery.

A local anaesthetic or numbing cream is applied to the skin tag area before it is removed. Patients will not feel pain when skin tags are removed.

What care is required after Skin Tag Removal?

Patients should take all prescribed medications and apply topical medications correctly. They should sleep with their head elevated for two days. They should avoid strenuous exercise and lifting heavy objects for at least a week. They should avoid exposing the treated area to direct sunlight for at least nine months. They should avoid touching or scratching the treated area to ensure that the healing is quick.

In March 2019 I came for an appointment with doctor Ejikeme where I was looking for a treatment that was actually going to harm my skin and not give me the long term benefit I was looking for. I learned things about my skin skincare and makeup ingredients that I was not even aware of. I embarked on a 6 skincare treatment before adding peeling and since then I have no issue going to work or being seen without makeup. Actually, I barely wear makeup although I buy more now :-). Thank you for teaching me patience and kindness towards my skin, stopping for looking for short term results vs longer terms. Thank you for adapting the service you provide to me based on my needs, thank you for not pushing me to buy something that will only benefit the decrease or my wallet vs my skin. I have a long list of things that still want to improve on my body and face but I’m 75% there. I look forward to every treatment I have to have in your clinic. During the first visit the patient will have a full consultation with Dr Farrell to cover their skin concern. If appropriate, Dr Farrell may also examine other sites of the skin, as sometimes other sites of the body can be similarly affected. (e.g. in the case of sun damage). Dr Farrell with discuss with you the diagnoses, relevant investigations and treatment plan. Some investigations can be done on the day but others may need approval from your insurance company . Dr Farrell will also suggest a treatment plan and provide relevant information leaflets. The clinic also has available on site many of the products that may be required as part of the treatment plan and we can dispense these on the day. We also provide a postal service so that repeat requests for product can be supplied. Dr Farrell will usually also follow up the consultation with a typed report which will be posted to you within a few days summarising the discussion. Dr Farrell usually writes to your General Practitioner with her recommendations and a copy is sent to you. If you are attending for purely a cosmetic reason and do not wish Dr Farrell to write to your GP then she will respect your wishes, but if you wish she will send a recommendation of treatments to you. If you are funding the consultation and treatment through insurance it is important that you obtain an authorisation number for the consultation before the visit.
