I gave this place a try last week when in town with my good lady. A little background; I have a sister a generation older than me who worked in the dental business for forty years before retiring. When I was a kid, I had assorted good habits drummed into me that I have maintained. Thus, while my teeth aren't the straightest, they are healthy with no fillings and no cavities. I do though like to maintain the regime of a biyearly visit to the dentist for a check-up and clean.
I approached various dentists in HCMC asking for a quote for a check-up and cleaning my teeth. What I liked about Apona was, a) they quoted me an exact price and in Vietnamese dong (other places seemed to quote me a price range or quoted me in a foreign currency). Thus, I knew exactly how much I would be charged; b) The quote of 350,000 vnd seemed good value at around 30% of what I pay since I moved from the UK to Hong Kong. An appointment time was agreed, and I spun on the day. The location is easy to find on the corner of a block in HCMC district one. On walking in, the first thing to notice is the reception is gleamingly white and clean. This was the case for everything I saw of theirs. When I was escorted to the lift to go to the dental rooms, I was asked to take off my shoes and change into a pair of plastic slip on shoes they provided. Fine by me. The dental room itself has flat screen computer technology with what looked like an X-ray of a previous patient. The assistant took the various tools that were to be used out of their sealed plastic bags. Whether they were brand new or had been returned from a sterilising team, I have no idea. The dentist showed up and confirmed it was a clean I was interested in. After I confirmed it was indeed a clean I was after, he proceeded to calmly, quietly, diligently, and painlessly work his way through removing the tartar built up on my teeth over the last six months. After that was done, he gave them a polish with stuff that tasted exactly like the stuff used in every other polish a dentist has given my teeth over the last four decades. My visit to Apona was as a guinea pig with the intention of my better half attending later in the week if I gave the thumbs up. The thumbs up I certainly did give. My good lady attended a few days later. Her needs were more complex than mine (you'd need to ask her for a description). The treatment she was given she said was in line with her expectations. She commented very favourably about all aspects of the service. An unexpected and pleasant surprise was that on payment both of us, we were given a 20% discount. If in HCMC again, I would be more than happy to use this dental practice again. This was every bit as professional as dental treatment I have received in the UK, Australia, and Hong Kong.
