What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a tooth shaped covering used as a cap over damaged teeth. The purpose of placing a crown is to improve the appearance and strength of the damaged tooth. Crowns are also placed over surgically inserted dental implants.

What are the different types of Dental Crowns?

The types of dental crowns include ceramic crowns, zirconia crowns, porcelain covered corrosion resistant metal crowns or porcelain fused to metal crowns, corrosion resistant metal crowns and gold crowns.

What is the best type of crown?

The best type of crown depends on the need of each individual patient and the position of the tooth. For instance, some people would find a gold crown placed on a front tooth unsightly. Ceramic, tooth coloured crowns placed on the front teeth maintain the natural appearence of the smile.

How long will a Dental Crown last?

Crowns are expected to last for about 5 years. Some crowns could last for up to 30 years. The life of a crown depends on the dental hygiene practiced by the patient and general wear and tear caused by biting, chewing or grinding. Crowns may crack if the patient has an accident.

Is it painful to get a Dental Crown?

Dentists inject local anaesthetic to numb the tooth and gum before placing the crown. The patient will not feel any pain while the crown is being placed. After the anaesthetic wears off the patient may feel mild pain or sensitivity for a few hours.

Stoke Bishop Dental Centre - Dr Paul Wilson

The best part was that the procedure was painlessAnonymous, bristol, 06 03 18

I had a root canal done at Stoke Bishop. The price was the deciding factor for me here. In all honesty, I still think it was too much money, but compared to some other clinics, it was worth it. There were no additional costs. The clinic is very good and well-organized. The best part was that the procedure was painless (which is always a plus for a dentist appointment!). I had a check-up seven weeks after the root canal and didn’t pay for this (it was included in the initial cost). Everything was great.

Dental Crowns & Onlays (Per Tooth) £679 - £734
Dental crowns are used to rebuild and reconstruct heavily filled or broken teeth. Unlike veneers, they encapsulate the whole tooth. What are the benefits of a crown? Teeth which are heavily filled / broken down are often weak and are highly likely to break which may result in the tooth needing to be removed. A crown rebuilds the top part of the tooth preventing any splitting action thus protect the tooth giving many years of function. How natural do crowns look? Crowns are indistinguishable from your natural teeth and last many years. Badly matched or old crowns can be replaced recreating a youthful dentition.
Second Opnion/ dentist consultation £49 - £50
Here at Stoke Bishop Dental Centre we are happy to give you a advice on a specific concern you have. This isn't a full examination, the dentist will look at the problematic area only and give you advice. A dental x-ray will most likely be needed to enable us to give you as much information as possible.
Dental Implants
Dental Implant including crown from £2494
If you have several missing teeth, you may not need an implant root for every missing tooth. This simplifies treatment and reduces the cost considerably. For example, if you are missing four front teeth, these can be replaced by placing just two implant roots and these can be used to support a block, or bridge of four teeth. You can also have full arch implants inserted.
