Veneers are thin slices of porcelain. These are precisely made to fit over the visible surface of front teeth, like a false fingernail fits over a nail. Veneers are an ideal way of treating discoloured or unsightly teeth, closing gaps between front teeth, or repairing chips and cracks. A small amount of enamel is removed from the tooth, usually the same thickness as the veneer will be. An impression is taken by the dentist and sent to a dental technician for the veneer to be made in the laboratory. The veneer is then bonded to the tooth to form a strong and natural-looking repair. Sometimes a natural colour ‘composite’ material is used instead of porcelain. Composite veneers can be completed in one visit and involve bonding tooth-coloured filling material to the front of the tooth. Although these veneers are slightly more prone to staining and have a shorter life, they are easily replaced.
Dental Checkup
Dental Crowns
Dental veneers are used to correct alignment, color and tooth shape problems. Porcelain veneers are very thin pieces of specially-shaped and colored porcelain that are bonded over the front of your teeth. Composite resin veneers are applied directly to your teeth and adjusted to the desired shape. Both procedures can be performed without anesthesia. Veneers require a minimum tooth reduction (where the thickness of the tooth is reduced about 0.5-1.5 mm.). In cases of serious tooth discoloration (very yellow or brown -colored), dentists recommend porcelain veneers or crowns as opposed to bleaching.. Dental veneers can be a solution for: Correct the shape of the front teeth, * Closing space of the front teeth, Corredt the alignment of the front teeth, Severely discolored teeth.

Crowns are restorations that cover teeth that are no longer structurally sound. Root canals, lost fillings, decay below a filling, chipping and cracking of the enamel are things that may lead to large scale defects in a tooth's surface. When the entire surface of the tooth is a problem, but the root system is intact, a cap might be appropriate for you. Preparing a tooth for a crown usually requires two visits – At the first visit the tooth is examined for any gross decay which is removed and the tooth is properly restored before it is prepared to receive the crown, if the tooth had already received root canal treatment then this step should have been done before preparing for the crown. After anesthetizing the tooth and gum tissue around the tooth receiving the crown is filed down along the chewing surface and sides to make room for the crown. An impression is taken for the tooth and send to the laboratory to fabricate the cap. The crown is usually ready in three days during which your tooth will be restored with a temporary crown. Receiving the permanent dental crown. At your second visit, your dentist will remove your temporary crown and check the fit and color of the permanent crown. If everything is acceptable, a local anesthetic will be used to numb the tooth and the new crown is permanently cemented in place.

Dental crowns are restorations that protect damaged, cracked, discoloured or broken teeth. The crown is sometimes called a cap because it covers the entire outer surface of the tooth. We may use crowns also to improve the appearance because of malaligned teeth or broken teeth. Also root canal treated teeth may need a crown to protect it from breakdown. It may help to hold a bridge or denture firmly in place.

Root canals
First off, a local anesthesia is injected into the gum of the tooth where the dental crown is to be fitted and the tooth is then cleaned up and any decay is removed using a dental drill fitted with a burr. The dentist will generally grind the tooth down into a taper so that the crown will fit more snugly. Dental putty is pressed over the tooth to make an impression and then sent off to the laboratory so that a new crown can be fabricated. Your dentist will then quickly construct a temporary crown to cover and protect the tooth in question. That will be the end of your first visit as it will take about two weeks for the laboratory to have the permanent crown made. On your second visit the temporary crown will be removed and the prepared tooth will be cleaned and roughened up using a burr. An etching acid is then applied to the tooth at the same time the hygienist applies the dental cement to your new dental cap. The cap will then be fitted over the prepared tooth and all rough edges smoothed and color matching checked.
