What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a tooth shaped covering used as a cap over damaged teeth. The purpose of placing a crown is to improve the appearance and strength of the damaged tooth. Crowns are also placed over surgically inserted dental implants.

What are the different types of Dental Crowns?

The types of dental crowns include ceramic crowns, zirconia crowns, porcelain covered corrosion resistant metal crowns or porcelain fused to metal crowns, corrosion resistant metal crowns and gold crowns.

What is the best type of crown?

The best type of crown depends on the need of each individual patient and the position of the tooth. For instance, some people would find a gold crown placed on a front tooth unsightly. Ceramic, tooth coloured crowns placed on the front teeth maintain the natural appearence of the smile.

How long will a Dental Crown last?

Crowns are expected to last for about 5 years. Some crowns could last for up to 30 years. The life of a crown depends on the dental hygiene practiced by the patient and general wear and tear caused by biting, chewing or grinding. Crowns may crack if the patient has an accident.

Is it painful to get a Dental Crown?

Dentists inject local anaesthetic to numb the tooth and gum before placing the crown. The patient will not feel any pain while the crown is being placed. After the anaesthetic wears off the patient may feel mild pain or sensitivity for a few hours.

Thank you so much for the beautiful smileUte, Cyprus, 23 12 23

I was completely satisfied with my dental treatment at the Smalto Clinic. From expert advice to surgical procedures and the provision of full-ceramic crowns, you are in the best hands in this clinic, both medically and in terms of human interaction. Anyone who has had bridges and crowns for many years can be helped to achieve a “wonderful smile” by having the crowns renewed/lengthened by straightening (cutting back) the gums. In addition, the clinic can use the forms of the German statutory health insurance company and therefore enable a subsidy towards the costs. I would like to thank Dr Vasilis Vasiloudes, Dr Christina Sergiou, Dr Constantina Christou and the dental technician. Thank you so much for the beautiful smile!

The practice itself is clean, inviting and by far the best I have seenNatasha, Greece, 26 04 24

We had our first trip to this dentist as a family. Dr. Marillia is a friendly, understanding dentist who is great with children. My daughters had their first checkups (2 & 3yrs old) and they loved it. Receiving small gifts and colour-changing toothpaste, which they are obsessed with. The practice itself is clean, inviting and by far the best I have seen. I would highly recommend Dr. Marillia Pekri for a thorough check-up.

He has no pain and the tooth looks so naturalLoy, Cyprus, 11 08 24

Best Dentist I have ever met! Not only are the facilities clean and modern, the staff are absolutely lovely. Our dentist was Dr Prodromos Farfaras. Maybe the nicest human being we have ever met and did the most amazing job. He was so lovely and put my partner at ease. My partner needed a root canal and not only did he work out the problem right away (the dentist in Limassol had no idea what the problem was) he treated the tooth over a few days to make sure he provided the best treatment possible. He has no pain and the tooth looks so natural! Looking for a great dentist? Look no further! Dr Prodromos Farfaras = The Best.
