A sinus lift is done when there is not enough bone in the upper jaw, or the sinuses are too close to the jaw, for dental implants to be placed. There are several reasons for this: Many people who have lost teeth in their upper jaw — particularly the back teeth, or molars — do not have enough bone for implants to be placed. Because of the anatomy of the skull, the back of the upper jaw has less bone than the lower jaw.Bone may have been lost because of periodontal (gum) disease.Tooth loss may have led to a loss of bone as well. Once teeth are gone, bone begins to be resorbed (absorbed back into the body). If teeth have been missing for a long time, there often is not enough bone left to place implants. The maxillary sinus may be too close to the upper jaw for implants to be placed. The shape and the size of this sinus varies from person to person. The sinus also can get larger as you age. Sinus lifts have become common during the last 15 years as more people get dental implants to replace missing teeth. Once the bone is in place, the tissue is stitched closed. Your implants will be placed four to nine months later. This allows time for the grafted material to mesh with your bone. The amount of time depends on the graft material that was used.

--per implant--- A dental implant is a "root" device, usually made of titanium, used in dentistry to support restorations that resemble a tooth or group of teeth to replace missing teeth. The first stage of implantation requires the implantologist to assess factors (eg. bone levels, medical conditions) which will decide whether the patient is a good candidate for implants (assessed with panoramic x-rays).If implants are viable, the implantologist will proceed to insert the implant/s into the jaw/s, suture(stitch) the area/s up and the patient will be re-called for a check-up appointment +- 6 months later. These 6 months are vital because the bone fuses to the implant giving it the best support/strength, the soft tissue (gums) are also healed in the area of implantation and the sutures keep the implants free of bacteria. The next stage is started whereby the patient returns after the +- 6 months and the crown/s (the visible part of the tooth) are prepared which will be constructed at a dental lab by dental technicians. The dentist will place temporary crowns on the implant/s abutments (the extension that protrudes out of the gum where the crowns will be fixed to the implant) so that the patient will have use of that area, the implants will be protected and for aesthetic appeal. The patient will then be re-called and the final permanent crowns will be placed.Please note: if you have many teeth missing in an area, this will normally not require you to have implants for every single tooth. For single or double tooth loss in one area-you will need individual implants but 3 or more in one area will require less implants.

 In cases where bone condition and density are favourable, dental implants can now be embedded immediately after tooth extraction. Such techniques being referred to as immediate implants, one-day implants, single day implants or same day implants. This means that the patient have new tooth roots (the dental implants) upon leaving the office.
