Had a sleeve done on Tuesday, 10th February 26. Was talked through the process from start to finish, and everything I was told happened. The only thing I would say negative need more translators to hand other than that, I can’t fault the whole process.

Gastric sleeve is a simple procedure. We access the abdominal area laparoscopically (keyhole surgery) and remove about 80% of the stomach by cutting it along its length. After sleeve surgery, the food you eat enters and exits the stomach via the same places as before (unlike gastric bypass), but you have a much smaller stomach. I went to Antalya to Dr Suleyman Akilli on the 10th April for a gastric sleeve operation. I had a very present and positive experience. The surgical team were amazing from the initial assessments through to the aftercare while I was still in hospital. I travelled with a friend who was also allowed to stay in the hospital with me. They arranged food and drinks for her as well, and a bed alongside mine. The nurses, although they didn’t speak much English, were lovely and communication was not a problem. Post surgery, I was given lots of information on how to move forward. The first two weeks were a liquid diet, which I found easy enough, as I didn’t feel hungry. From weeks 3-4, introducing food, I was surprised at how little I was eating compared to before. I don’t feel hungry at all, and no cravings. By week 4, I was down 25 lbs, and I feel amazing. I can’t recommend Dr Suleyman enough for your surgery. He is the best.

Roux en y bypass In January 2025 I travelled to Turkey for a gastric sleeve, the morning of the operation I had extensive testing done and it found I had a condition called Barrett’s esophagus. Dr Tahir would not sleeve me as dangerous so he gave me all my options I travelled home to think about my options and travelled back in July 25 and had a full bypass. The service received was absolutely second to none. I am still in touch with staff and know I can reach out at anytime to Dr Tahir and my question would be answered the same day. I believe other surgeons would have possibly done the sleeve but Dr Tahir gave me my money back and told me to go home and think about what I needed to do. I honestly think he has saved my life as my Barrett’s is caused by silent reflux and I would have never known I had it until possibly to late.
